  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I love my DIS, and I am curious about the next generation of Sync planned for Hyundai. This article doesn't address that, but it does give a glimpse of what some of the next generation technology package features can do.

So I found the attached article from NWAirlines inflight magazine about what GM, Ford and Chrysler have planned to be very interesting.

FORD
------
911 Assist
SIRIUS Travel Link
Vehicle health report (email)
Refrigerator

CHRYSLER
----------
Wi-Fi Internet hub
30-Gig HD storing 6,700 songs

GM
---
OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown

Does the wi-fi for Chrysler actually mean internet access in the vehicle?

Sal,

The article does not spell out how the Internet connection is established, but I am thinking it is just a cellular connection similar to the broadband access cards you can plug into your laptop. Then all you need is to hide a wireless hub to connect a laptop or other mobile device within 100' of the vehicle.

It appears to be integrated to the tech display because the article refers to vehicle warnings when the car is not in park.

At CES this January, Intel’s Julie Coppernoll gave a Mobile WiMax tour of Las Vegas using Motorola basestations with Clearwire spectrum - a clone of the Hillsboro trial setup in Oregon. The 3 sector base stations connected to Motorola Wi4 Diversity access points (pdf) plugged into Wi-Fi access points inside the vehicles.

There is a related article in today's USATODAY, a review of Autonet Mobile which is the Internet access system that Chrysler will be offering. It is a router with antenna that gets installed in your trunk, or possibly you can use it as a mobile unit and plug it into a power adapter in the car.

It costs $499 plus install plus a monthly subscriber fee of $29 or $59
