I'm new to the forum and am also a new 2010 Genesis Sedan owner and so far really love the car. I couldn't get my USB Flash Drive to work. The Genesis just kept "Scanning USB..." for 10 or more minutes. I later remembered that I had formatted that Drive to NTFS Format from FAT32. I reformatted back to FAT32, reloaded the songs and it works great! With FAT32 you don't have to shut down the Drive before unplugging so it should be relatively safe to leave in your USB port when starting up/shutting down the car. (Power surge when starting the car could potentially damage the USB device.)
To check your Drive, Insert it into your computer and left click on MY COMPUTER in the Start Menu. Locate the Drive (usually labeled Removable Disk and it's letter designation), Right Click it and select Properties. Beside FILE SYSTEM you should see Fat or Fat16 or FAT32. I think any of these will work. But if it says NTFS, you will have to format it if you want to use it on your Genesis.
FORMATTING: BE SURE YOU ARE WORKING ON THE FLASH DRIVE AND NOT ONE OF YOUR HARD DRIVES. If you're unsure, I would suggest taking the flash drive to a computer store and asking someone there to reformat it for you to FAT32. CAUTION: Formatting will ERASE everything on the Flash Drive so be sure to back up anything you want to keep prior to Formatting!! I would suggest formatting to FAT32 and selecting the smallest File Allocation number 512Bytes. Complete and then reload your MP3 songs. Next, go back to My Computer in the Start Menu but this time, Right click it, Select PROPERTIES and then DEVICE MANAGER. Under DISK DRIVES, find your USB Drive, Right click it and select Properties. Under Policies, be sure Quick Removal is Checked On. Click OK to exit all screens.
