USB jump drive

If I have read correctly and seen some other posts, you can load a USB drive (SSD) with music and use it as a music source instead of an iPod. However, when I have tried, it states that the music can't be read. I have changed the file type and also went as far as reformatting the entire drive and reloading music. Has anyone managed to utilize this option, and if so, do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Although I can't find a reference to the limit in the owner's manual, apparently there is a limit to the size of drive that can be read. What size drive are you using?

I use a 16 Gig Thumbdrive formatted in FAT 32. Use mp3 or WMA files only.

Successfully used a 32GB USB drive with MP3 audio and MP4 video and no problems, beyond that, I can't say. Others have tried 120+ GB drives that would not work. I'm guessing that about 32GB is the limit.

I use a 16 gig micro usb drive with music in 320k mp3 format. Works perfect and have about 2500 songs on it.

I consistently use 8MB USB 2.0 flash drives with no issues. I can also use an 8MB USB 3.0 flash drive but it always wants to return to the first file on the drive when I turn the system off and then back on later. I have not tried anything larger than 8 MB.

I have a base Genesis audio system, not a Lexicon.

The drive must be formatted in FAT32. And even then it still may not work...USB functionality in any car (not just the Genny) is notoriously finicky. FWIW, I've used a Corsair Voyager 16GB flash drive without problems.

As Snork says, FAT 32 is the key.

Well I did notice on my Sonata that it didn't like cheap USB sticks. It worked much better on the higher transfer rate USB.

16 GB Sandisc formatted, changed music to mp3 and didn't work. Tried reformatting to WMA and still no dice. May have stick with iPod.

Me, no luck at all with jump drives.. I just leave my old classic iPod in the center console plugged In and ready to go...
Every couple of months I just clear it out & reload the music I want from my iMac..

FYI I did not format or change anything on the three jump drives I have used, I just opened the package, copied the music to the drives from my computer. Used 320k MP3 they all work fine.

using a 16gb slim sandisk packed with MP3s. I put away the iPod classic since it wouldn't turn off with the car. I just use the voice command "random song" and it shuffles the music.

I was able to get an external 500giger to work. Just needed to format it.

Interesting - I tried a 16GB SanDisk and the system wouldn't recognize it. I tried an HP instead and it works fine.

I've used 2 gb, 4 gb and 8 gb jump drives with no issues. Two or three different brands, too. What ever WalMart or Best Buy sells.

The only issues I've had is if I bring it in and try to add music to it, then the added music is "invisible" to the unit in the car. If I erase everything and reload the old music with the new music all at the same time the unit in the car reads it just fine.
