Are you able to use the USB input to play music or only the ipod
 
Yes, you can save music to a USB drive and play it through the Lexicon system. I have a number of 4GB USB sticks and they work wonderfully!
 
Did you use itunes to download the music to USB ?
 
I just copied MP3 files right onto the USB memory stick, plugged it in, and it worked like a charm ....

The default file format for iTunes is ACC (file extension may be m4a), although you can create MP3 files with iTunes, so you will have to check your iTunes folder to see what you have. In looking at the Genesis Owners Manual it looks like the stereo will only play MP3 or WMA (native uncompressed compact disc format), but I am not 100% sure because there are 3 different stereo systems.

If you already have AAC files and want to convert them to MP3 there are a lot of freeware programs that can do that. Here is one (I have not tried it but it gets good reviews):

Even though the Genesis will apparently not play an AAC encoded file on USB, it will play one that is on an iPod via the iPod interface.
