Vehicle “detects an accident” while driving down the road

Today we were driving down the interstate with the cruise control set and no other vehicle or object was anywhere near us. The system detected an accident and the car came to a complete stop in the road. Fortunately I was able to get off the roadway without being hit. It nearly caused an accident. Grateful no one was right behind me! Computer just updated yesterday. Your thoughts?

Detected an accident? Or did it erroneously detect another vehicle?

This is another example of why I’m not enamored with all this “smart” technology.

Maybe the system was in a time warp and detecting the accident you were about to cause????

Mine has done this a couple of times. I think the common theme was maybe a glare from the sun and also a road with hills. Each time I just override the system before it does the emergency braking.
