  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Now that the weather is warming up I'm driving more with the heat off. Something I've noticed that I've never seen before is the temperature of the air coming through the vents. The temperature of the air is based on the temperature setting even though the heat/air conditioning is off. In other words, if the temperature is set to 74º then the air coming out of the vents is warm. If the temperature is set to 65º then the air coming out of the vents is cool. This means I have to press the "Auto" button, set the temperature, then press the "Off" button. Is this normal with the GV80?

Not sure what you want. Set the temperature, press Auto and you get that temperature no matter the outdoor. I'd not touched mine since it was set the first day. Why press the Off button? Then you get nothing.

One reason I bought a Genesis is the excellent climate control.

I think his point is that air still comes out of the vents even when the A/C is off, but the temp of that air is based on the settings of the A/C unit. Nothing to do with the climate control when the A/C is on. It's like back when older cars had vents that you could open just to get airflow, instead of having to turn on the A/C.

Say it's 60 degree outside and I set the temp to 68 degrees. Does that mean the A/C is on?

AC is on when needed to cool or dehumidify for the defrosters. Many cars run the compressor when the defroster is on as it clears much faster.

Some compressors rotate all the time too and the internal valves are controlled to cool or not.

That's right. My point is the HIVAC system is off yet the air temperature coming thru the vents is based on what the HVAC temperature was set at. If the HVAC temperature is set to 72 and I turn off the HIVAC then the air coming thru the vents will be 72, but the system is off! The HVAC temperature shouldn't have any effect on the air temperature. I'm trying to think this through, when the HVAC is off, then the air shouldn't be going past the heating/cooling coils, at least I don't think so, the air should bypass the coils and be the same temperature as the outside. Is this an idiosyncrasy of Genesis? I don't remember my G70 being like this.

Does any of this make sense or am I nuts? Ok, don't answer that latter.

I didn't realize that it happened until the winter time. Naturally I had the heat on, but sometimes it would get too hot and I would have to shut it off. Later I would feel like hot air was blowing on me, even though the heater was off. I couldn't figure out how it was happening until I put the temperature to 75. No more hot air. I can't explain why it happens, but I know it does.

Markbridge, I have had the same experience. I set the temp on auto, then turn off the a/c button off and cabin air vents in around the set temperature.

I have the same complaint with my Prestige. Warmed air comes through the vents whether I want it or not. The only way to combat it is to turn on the A/C. Since common wisdom is that use of the A/C impacts gas mileage, I don't want to have to do that. More on principle; I SHOULDN'T have to do that. It's actually one of the very few complaints I have with the car. Overall, I love it.

I honestly don't notice the mileage change on new cars. It is there but minimal. It has always been good practice to run the compressor occasionally in winter to keep the seals lubricated. New compressors are variable valve and don't take as much power when minimal cooling is needed.

One reason I bought a Genesis is comfort and the climate control gives it to me. I set the temperature, pushed AUTO and have not touched it for the past few years.
