If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2015 Genesis 3.8 RWD Ultimate Package. So far I've really enjoyed the vehicle, except for one issue. I've been feeling a tremor in the brakes, especially when I am braking at low speeds, or when I am braking lightly. The best way I can describe it is that there is a vibration in the pedal, and sometimes almost a subtle but noticeable grind as if there is friction or I'm going over little rumble strips.

I've noticed it since I drove it off the lot (it had 22 miles on it) and I've now put about 450 miles and I still notice it. I had my wife drive it and she noticed it. I immediately informed the sales manager at the dealership and I brought it in for maintenance a few days later. It had around 200 miles on it at this point.

At the dealership they told me three technicians failed to identify the issue that I am experiencing. I asked them if they could, at a minimum, take the wheels off and test the rotors to see if there was any warp. I was told they did this already. As I drove it away I still felt the vibration, so I returned and had the sales manager drive it. He stated that it was just the ABS I was feeling, even though we weren't hard stopping. The Sonata they put me in during maintenance braked smoothly with no vibration at all.

So now I've been driving it and trying to convince myself it feels normal, but it definitely doesn't. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone have any thoughts about what it could be? I'm not a car guru or anything so my experience is limited to what I can research.

tl;dr - My brand new 2015 Genesis has vibration when braking at low speeds or braking softly; Dealership told me the issue doesn't exit and sales manager said it was the ABS even though we never hard stopped; any advice is appreciated.

I would request to go on the test run with them. I don't know how your dealer is, but sometimes the one I used to use threw me the same line: "yeah we did that...yeah we did that"; but when I would go with them they 'suddenly' saw what I was talking about.

Given that it's a new car, I would go back and start making demands (on the strength that they realize you're not going away). Perhaps test drive another 2015 (if possible) for comparison's sake and/or take it to an independent shop (one you're comfortable with) just for an analysis.

So typical of many dealers who will go through so many contortions just to get around fixing a customer's car. In this case, you'll have to make a second trip (if you're lucky) to convince the dealer that the problem can be easily fixed (on warranty) by replacing a $50 warped rotor. And all of this after just purchasing probably the most expensive Hyundai in that dealer's inventory. Doesn't this behavior make one wonder if dealers ever care about the possibility of building a loyal customer base that may yield repeat business.

There are a few things I would do if I suspected warped rotors before dealing with the dealer.

1) jack car and retorque each lug nut on each wheel to the required spec. It must be done in star pattern to ensure the wheel is seated properly. Over torquing a lug nuts can cause warping and we all know most dealer use impact wrenches not calibrated torque wrenches.
2) check air pressure on all 4 wheels and inflate to proper spec

Have you taken the car to a car wash after the brake rotors have gotten hot?
Cold water on a hot rotor can cause warping.

^ +1 Proper torque on each lug is important. If they are uneven, and/or uneven and extra "impact tool" tight, will warp Real fast. Later on, have them hand torqued (nice, easy and steady to the click, not a monkey man torque cranking on the torque wrench past the click).. Rotors will last very long time. Oh, and those "torque sticks" they use off a air impact tool do not work.

Dealer needs to replace likely more than one rotor.

I had something similar in my 2009 Genesis. It was one of the antilock brake sensors "pumping" the brakes. It was especially noticeable when braking at a slow speed. The car was still under warranty at the time.

I'm having the same issue. Did you ever find out what it was?

am facing the exact same issue now.. at slow speed with brake, the car is shaking like crazy.
