  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My dealer offers vinyl paint protectant. Not the spray on stuff as I've heard many negatives about that.

I got the car back yesterday and it looked fine. I just had them do the nose piece surrounding the grill. They said they couldn't do the mirrors and I didn't want them to do part of the hood.

This morning I found a few "puckers" just below the light box on the passenger side. The dealership cautioned me that the car needed to sit in the sun for a while so the heat could shrink the vinyl to fit perfectly but, of course, its been raining here for the last week and the weather report calls for it to continue at least for the next several days. YTD we are 8" above normal. It seems we are getting all Cali's water here in Fla.

My question is, has anyone else had vinyl installed and did you have these type of issues? Did a few hours in the sunshine smooth out any wrinkles or will I need to take it back for a redo?

The film will eventually lay down once it's stops raining and sun returns. If you have the car in your garage the car is dry, you can take a bondo card or similar and squeegee out the "finger" that you're seeing. It may not lay down depending on how much moisture is under the film though.

If you're talking about a "clear bra" treatment. I would suggest you do a search on it or "Xpel". There's a few posts on it.

I've had my genesis coupe vinyl'd up here in Canada over the last couple of years and it sounds like the shop you did it at does not know proper vinyl installs. With the weather you have in Florida you should have less problems that us here in Toronto since heat is a good thing when installing the vinyl

Did the shop clean the area that the vinyl was installed? A good shop will clay bar the car to remove any sediment that will impact the install and smoothness of the material. The fact that they said they can't do mirrors is lazy IMO.

Wrinkles need to be redone. Small bubbles may appear but disappear after a day or two when left in the sun.

Here is the first wrap job done on the car. Matte Red Aluminum.
