Has anyone successfully had viper smart start installed on their genesis sedan? I curious how they bypass the proximity.

it is possible, but you need one of these... http://www.idatalink.com/search/index/model/7214. its an immobilizer so you can use remote starts on push start button cars. you can also set them up to do other stuff like open windows, trunk, etc. i might set one up soon

I had the smart start installed about a year ago and it works great. I had to get a new key from the dealer that was programmed, cost me about $80. It's a great tool especially when you can start the car from anywhere that you get a phone signal. No more freezing or broiling!

I know somebody else did this as well without needing an extra fob.

I got it about 6 months ago. Phone app works prettty well. Got a separate key fob (optional) which doesnt work as well (periodically fails to start).

Also note occasionally car alarm will go off on start, but this seems to be only when using the fob. Annoying, but doesn't happen that often

I know this is an old thread but i installed the Viper Smart Start on my 09 Genesis 4.6 about 8-10 months after i bought her brand new & never had any issues with the system and still loving it.....living in NY i never get in a freezing or steaming car, in fact my wife is mad that i wont install it in her toyota sienna lmao ( she wont pay me for my labor i dont care if we been married 22 years )
