  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well after having issues with my electronics and then having them just disappear on their own about a year ago they have come back. Basically in the morning everything works fine and continue to do so. Here is the kicker. As soon as I hit the voice command everything freezes up. The multi function rotary knob does nothing in any mode. I cannot even turn off the radio by pushing the radio off button. Has this particular issue been discussed yet regarding everything freezing after the voice command feature is selected and if so is there a fix?

In a nutshell. Morning startup everything is fine and remain so unless I hit voice command and then everything is locked up. Shutting down the vehicle for 30 minutes or better gets thing operational again.

Second issue which shows it's face once in a while is the seat and steering wheel become inoperative. Kinda sucks when the seat is all the way up and the seat all the way back and you cannot move them. This normally corrects itself maybe 10-15 minutes after driving but a real pain non the less and needs to be fixed. Ant suggestions on this.

Still love the car and would not trade it for anything else out there except maybe an RSpec. :D

I have had this same problem with system lock up. I have described it in several other forums and have concluded that this in fact happens after a trial offering on XM/Sirus sat radio. On five separate occasions now this fault has coincided with the free trial. My theory is that XM leaves a string of data with your head unit which after the end of the free trial period now conflicts with the system causing a lock up. Similar to installing some types of software on your PC and then some things now don't work. This can be remedied by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, this allows a cold reset to your system and hence the dumping of the illegitimate string of data. Once this is done everything works fine. Turning the car off and then back on works only till you use the voice command button, to get rid of the string you must interrupt the power to you system either by pulling the CB or disconnecting the battery.

This would not happen to a person who subscribes to Sat radio on their Genny, only if you do not have XM sub. My theory, and I have more then proven the cause.

Thanks for the response. My dealer was in contact with Hyundai Canada and they indeed mention the XM issue. The new, or should I say newer amps have apparently addressed this issue and they are supposed to install one in mine. Even though I am not subscribed, the signal still comes in as we can all get the info channel. They claim when sirius became a part of XM something changed in the signal which screws things up. Problem here is my XM subscription ran out well over a year ago and this showed it's ugly face again about a week ago. Guess we will find out soon as the amp is on order through my dealer.

As for the seat and steering issue, anyone have the same intermittent issues as me?

UPDATE::::

They changed my amp this morning and everything seems fine. Let's see how long this lasts. As mentioned, last time it fixed itself on it's own after a couple of weeks of issues and was good for a year and this was with the supposedly defective original amp.

I have a 2009 v8 tech with the same voice recognition controller lock up problem. It also mutes all sound. I'll take it in as well to see if something can be replaced.
