  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Voice recognition issue after Audio Update?

I did the update via flash drive from the website, and now the car can't hear my command via the voice feature.
Anyone else have issues after the update? Also, I thought it would update maps too... but not sure if it did.

Any suggestion to fix this?

No issues to report on my side and I don't recall seeing anyone else with any issues after they updated.

If you aren't sure if the maps are updated, you may want to go into the system and confirm the update loaded, or if it failed for some reason and you are still on an old version. May need to try the update again depending on your findings.

Happened on my GV80. I contacted Genesis on Saturday and they put in a ticket. They said a technician will call.

Yup, I'm having that issue as well. It's not that it can't hear me, but it seems like every single command I try doesn't work now - it says "I don't understand you". I thought it couldn't hear me but I tried some of the sample commands from the help screen and it did recognize those. But nothing else. I mean, it was terrible to start with but now it's completely unusable! I did ask them to check when I had the rear diff replaced but they said it was fine. I guess unusable is fine.

I don't use the nav often so I don't know if my issue is tied to an update. I have no problem with the voice command and dialing people in my contacts. It seems to correctly find most every name. However, I can't get the nav to recognize any address, it just says it doesn't understand me and after a few tries suggests I close the window. It hears the command just fine. I say "find address" and then it prompts me for the address, but it never hears what I am saying after that (it doesn't even guess). I have an appointment in 2 weeks to have them check it out (the dealer also graciously setup an appointment with an associate to show me how to use the system in case it is user error ... ok). Is this similar to your issue?

Yup. The call command is one of the few that seems to work. Navigation commands are unusable...much worse since the October update. I'm mostly using beta versions of Android Auto Coolwalk instead now.

Did you get a call back? I’m at the dealership and they are useless. I still haven’t gotten a call from the technician directly from Genesis 🥲

I'm having the exact same problem. Voice Command. It makes phone calls, but can't find map locations. Worked OK before the last map update. Hope the next map update fixes the problem, but I'm not putting any money on it.

By the way, I love my GV70. It's my 4th Genesis and it's the best one of the 4. But they do always seem to have one software issue that takes them a while to straighten out.

I understand some people are having the issue well after starting the vehicle, but I've grown increasingly aware if I try to use voice assistance for navigation or making a phone call within the first 60-90 seconds of starting the GV70, the Genesis system normally does not register anything and communicates it cannot hear or understand me. If that happens, it seems to delay the proper use of the interface even longer than had I just waited 2 minutes.

If I use the touchscreen right away, the system seems a tiny bit laggy, but does what it needs to just fine. Im sure like all computers and systems, it needs a little time to boot and run properly. Again, if you cannot get navigation to work 10 minutes into your drive, that is different than what I've encountered.

Like dhuhtala, suddenly one day, the nav voice commands just started working. I don't remember doing anything, it just started working, and has worked great since that day. I have a feeling that Genesis must be pushing updates OTA. On that guess, try updating to the newest firmware level via USB, and then make sure that you are connected to connected services. Hopefully, a short time later, the nav voice will suddenly start working for you too.

Yup, I'm sure they did something...

I just got off the phone with Genesis Concierges services and they had me go to my car. Starting the car and moving out of the garage. Then walked me through rebooting the head unit by pressing the map and setup buttons until the screen went bland (about 5 sec) and the unit rebooted. Then after the pressing the Continue request on the screen, I tried a nav command and it worked. Hope this works for everyone having this issue.

They had me try that too but it still doesn't work.

Same here ..didn't work initially but tried it a couple of weeks later and it was all working. I didn't change or update anything in the meantime.

OK. I jinxed it by talking about it. I tried to use the voice commands today to discover that I have now again lost all voice recognition in the NAV system (still works great for phone functions). I last used the nav voice commands March 21 without issue, so this change is pretty recent. Rebooted the system but no joy. I say find address and the system prompts me to say the address, but does not hear anything I say. If I say find address together with the address information, again it says it heard no address. I am not pleased.

I would try mine again but it will be in the shop for another month...

I forgot to post this, but about a week ago or so, I tried the voice navigation, and it was working again. Must be gremlins in the system.

I waited 6 weeks for an appointment at my Hyundai dealer and upon arrival the service tech said this is a known issue related to an update in March 2023 and there is no known solution and no timeframe for a software fix. My 2020 G90 has no voice recognition for any commands. It simply says "I didn't understand", where it formerly worked great in this car and my 2017 G90. A very nice sales rep said to skip the Genesis voice commands and use Apple Car Play for most of the same commands. Works great for the audio system and for Apple Maps program. But now I have to remember to plug in my phone each time I get in the car and unplug it when I get out of the car. So far I am batting about .500 at this.

Three issues I have...
1. When setting the service appointment and explaining the reason for the appointment, why didn't they acknowledge the issue cannot be fixed by Hyundai dealers??
2. Why doesn't the service dept. recommend Car Play as an alternative to the Genesis Voice Recognition that does not work?
3. Why doesn't Genesis notify their customers that there is a known problem and they are working on fixing it (if they really are doing so)?

My lease is up in 7 months and I am hoping it will be working by then. BUT this gives me pause for thought about leasing another Genesis.

They didn't acknowledge there was a problem for me...then one day a few weeks later I tried it again and everything worked!
