  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a Genesis 3.8 Premium which does not ahve the display or similar features on the tech package equipped cars.

My problem is that more than half the time the bluetooth does not recognise my voice commands to call a stored name and instead offers "odd" numbers and then cuts off. In short, it is frustrating and I find myself needing to eait for a red light and manually use my Blackberry to dial.

Once engaged the conversations over the car's speakers is wodnerful, but the attempts to dial by voice command are frustrating.

Are other owners finding a similar problem, and if so, have any had a
"fix" to their problem?

I tried to dial up using voice commands twice. Both times it showed the wrong digits.
I don't bother anymore. Now I either tell the voice command the name I have stored in the phone book, or if not there, I just get my cell out, and dial from the cell phone. It then connects through the Bluetooth. No big deal for me.

The non-Technology package models use a Johnson Controls BlueConnect system. Doing a bit of Googling, I found this:

I am having difficulty making the BlueConnect understand me.
The BlueConnect voice recognition is designed to interpret commands from the driver's seat, spoken at a normal rate, at a normal volume level. Please use the following tips when speaking to it:
• Speak at a normal volume, looking straight through the windshield
• Speak at a normal pace without pauses
• Wait for the beep to sound before giving the unit a command
• Reduce other sounds in the vehicle ¡e. passengers talking, wind noise, radio, climate control fan speed, etc.
• Make sure that the vehicle's stereo system is off or muted.

just bought a 2010 sedan yesterday...no probs with voice...just need to learn lingo

is there an easy location for the key words ?

I repeatedly do ALL of the above but at least as often as not cannot recognize the NAME I say. Instead it speaks out a number I've never heard. I've no choice but to elect "cancel" and manually dial on my Blackberry.

In all other respects I love love love my Genesis more than any other car I've ever owned (mostly Cadillacs) but this one item irks me.

My new 2012 is giving me problems with voice recognition for the phone. It will not recognize longer, or difficult, names in my contact list. I've tried duplicate, shorter name entries for some of those. Example: Instead of Robert Mendalacino I added Robert Mendo.
That sometimes works but I often ask, "Call name", and after a long period of non-response the system clicks off.
Not good.
Especially not good since I liked the system I had in my 2009 Genesis.
By the way, I do not have the tech package. This is the basic system.

Try it with a Korean accent.

Sorry, the devil made me say that.

Unfortunately we are still in the infancy of voice recognition add to that the complexity of a car environment and you have a formula for error. Not making excuses for the problem just stating the facts. True some cars are better than others in varying degrees but all far from perfect. That said since my other car also has a voice recognition system since 2007 and I’ve had time to formulate some rules to facilitate this function. The first and most important is to try using single syllable words and no more than two as key commands. EG: For Robert Mendalacino try Rob Mend, Rob Cell, Rob Home. I know it now requires remembering this change but you have to work the system the system won’t work you. Of course more logical things like tone and speed of given command also help. Both my other car and my 2011 Genesis are quite acceptable using voice commands after following these rules. Hope this helps.

I had terrible problems with call name until I realized the contacts were listed last name first (pulled from my phone). When I use the name Smith John it found it fine, but would not find John Smith. Know anyway I can reverse the way contacts are stored?

Also I found out the hard way that you cannot use all caps for either the first or last names. For voice recognition to work, the first and last names must have the first letter in caps and the remaining letters in lower case (i.e. John Smith).
