  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So after 85k miles, I decided to be proactive and get my brakes serviced since I have Friday afternoons off in the summer time. I was at the dealer for some unrelated service and he mentioned I'd need new pads "soon" but that the rotors could be turned. Dealer quoted me $290 per axle + tax = $620.60 FWIW.

That being said, I don't usually go to dealership for "regular" service since it's not worth my time (nearest dealer is 45 minutes away) and usually costs more than my local garage which I trust more. So I hopped onto Amazon and ordered a set for Wagner ThermoQuiet QC1396 Ceramic pads for the fronts and QC1284 Ceramic pads for the rears. FYI, if you have V8; Wagner's site only lists the QC1396 pads for the front. But the V8s and V6s have the same rear pads, so you will see the rears listed under the V6. From Amazon, I got both sets of pads for $77.93 including tax and the usual 2 day shipping with my Prime membership. Best price for the OEM pads I could find online was $134+tax/shipping.

I've only put about 4k miles on them, but so far they are equal to the OEM pads. Same pedal feel and no more/less brake dust. Also, when my local garage took my calipers off and pulled the pads out, the mechanic asked me "why" am I doing the brakes now? They still had 20% life left in them! I've never gone more than 60k on a set of brake pads, so I wasn't immediately doubting the dealership, but the Genny's brakes do seem to last forever. So here is to hoping the Wagner's will last as long as the OEMs and I didn't short myself in the long run for saving $50 on the pads;) Given a choice, I usually try to get Akebono aftermarket pads for my cars as I've had best experience with them, but they unfortunately don't make them for the Genny:( Total on my brake service rang in at $530 including the pads I bought myself and having the garage turn all my rotors as well.

Edit: thought I'd mention the mechanics all jockey for position whenever I bring my car in since it's something nice to work on and a good test drive. LOL.

Wow. You I think you are one of the few that have needed brakes on a 4.6 Genesis. I have 131,000 miles on the OEM pads with maybe 10,000 miles more in them. My car still brakes like new, so 85,000 miles seems like a short life unless most of your driving is stop and go with little or no highway miles.

You're right, I didn't technically need new pads! When my mechanic showed them to me, they probably had 20% thickness left. So at that rate, I probably could have gone another 20k miles or so:rolleyes:

I figured I already had the time off from work and had bought the pads, so I just did it anyway since I was there.

Hello snork, i installed the wagner thermo quiet pads on my corvette and would recommend them to anyone needing brake pads. I also installed drilled rotors so i did not go with the ceramic pads since they tend to create more heat. Still my pads are quiet and produce no dust. Well satisfied with wagner.............

It would be fairly unusual for front and rear pads to have same amount of wear. I have never had the rear pads replaced on any car I have owned with disk brakes.
