• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Couple of weeks ago, I took the 2009 4.6 Tech for a routine 84k oil change, get a call a bit later, saying your drive / serpentine belt requires replacement for $$$, I said no problem since it was time anyway…
The Mrs. goes back later to settle the bill, only to find out I was over charged but quickly refunded the difference and said we will collect the car later in the evening.

I get there with the Mrs that evening, get in, press the Start Engine and Off again as soon I heard a loud <metallic - Clack, CLAcK, ClaLk >, even the Mrs said “WHAT the HELL did they do with my purring kitten?”…
I have rebuilt engines, turbos and suffice to say I have been around cars long enough to know exactly how a crankshaft bearing, with little to no oil, sounds like!!???
Checking the dipstick confirmed my fears as I found whatever little oil was dark / dirty!!! as one might imagine, I was fuming!!

Arrghhh - Not exactly what I need, 4 days before a home move! :voodoo:

So, I put the key in the service envelop, with a very constraint nastygram explaining my observations.

Come in the next morning, magically no one can find the service agent, manager and I wait 45 min+ before I head back to work, then keep calling every hour until I managed to get hold of the service manager. I jokingly ask if I am getting a new engine while trying to ascertain what the hell happened!? He answers, in fact you are, as you are lucky you still have your 10/100k warranty, at that point I almost lost it, but instead did agreed the service department was indeed lucky, otherwise my lawyer would have been talking to him instead of myself. Got them to get me a rental, talked to the dealer manager to express my disappointment with the service department and left with the promise that they will get it done within three weeks.

To my astonishment I get a call one week later, saying the car was done and ready for collection (they must have pulled some strings to make that happen!). Once I got the move behind me, I went to check out the car, sure enough a new (/rebuilt engine with a new #), funny thing, later I verified the ECU has new checksum number and the Odo reads 72k!.

At that point I let them have it, not only I got them to refund my $$$ work that have done, I got them to give me a free R-Spec 30k service (with synthetic oil) and a promise going forward, that both my Genesis cars, will be treated by the VIP (the Equus/G80/G90) team ONLY and I will get a rental part of the service.

Moral of the story, might be worth checking the oil level prior to driving off the service lot, regardless how good the dealer is / has / might be.

Another example of dealer oil change gone wrong.

What is interesting is that the dealer will probably file a warranty claim with HMA, when in fact it was dealer negligence. But I would not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Oh they did file with HMA (?$13k job?), but at least they made it right and turned it around quickly, hence no mention of any names...

Hope the new engine had some oil in it

My horror story didn't have quite as serious consequences. I had a synthetic oil change done on my G2 just before leaving for Florida from Toronto. As soon as I got up to highway speed, a horrendous noise signalled that the engine under cover was not secured. I later learned from the dealer in the next town where I stopped in that 3 bolts had been broken off by the service tech into the frame and they could no longer properly secure it. Of course, no one had told me anything was wrong. When I finally reached the service manager calling from a hotel in Georgia (I was asking for confirmation they would pay for repairs in Florida), the idiot told me to hold off the repair until I returned to Toronto 3 months later. Right. I had the repairs done in Florida for $300 US. I was eventually reimbursed, but the experience was awful. I am now insisting that I see the car on the lift after the oil change is completed.

The V8 has two large panels underneath with a total of approx 40 fasteners.

Do you really think they're put back right?

Why I do my own service

I've heard of horror stories like this at dealerships and quick lube places. Hope I don't ever have that happen with my Genesis. But I did have that happen with the 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis my wife drove before getting the Genesis. Took it to a quick lube place years ago and the next day notice oil under the car. They hadn't even tightened the filter I could turn it with one hand. Would of been a catastrophe if I hadn't notice the oil dripping oil under the car:mad:
