  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So now that Florida winter is finally here and I can drive with the AC off and the sunroof open, I can't seem to stop heated air from flowing in to the cabin. Best I have managed is to set the Mode to the floor setting so I don't get warm air blowing in my face. I have tried adjusting the temp to Low before hitting the Off button, but still get the ward air flow as soon as I shut it off. Is there no way to completely shut off the air flow?

Sometimes the air flaps get a little lazy with age. Try pushing the recirculate air button to the right of the off button before shutting the system off, maybe it may change the air flow flaps and help.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried shutting it off with the recirculate mode on or off with no difference.

The only solutions I can see now are to talk to your service dealer and see if there is an easy way to shut it off. Barring that the service manual is your next bet and you're likely into a dash tear down to get to the air distribution unit and it's associated air doors.

By chance is the dial for the back seat turned to hot?

No, I have checked that first.

I am presently having the problem of hot air blowing all the time on my Sonata - i.e., the heater temp. control does not work. And "hot" measures out at something like 150 degs.

The problem is most likely the heater temperature blend motor actuator - - cars have lots of these gadgets behind the dash which perform various HVAC functions.

The second problem is that they are generally a nightmare to replace because they are usually buried in the ductwork behind the dash. Fortunately, we still have cold wx in northern Va.

Meanwhile, I would suggest that you do an OBD code check - they can gotten free at places like Advance Auto.

And my temporary fix is to turn the fan control to minimum - or off. No air coming out means no hot air.

ADDENDUM: I took the car to local dealer - and the problem was, in fact, the temp. blender actuator motor - Tab will be $465

No ODB codes (I have a scanner). I can control the temperature with the system ON, the trouble only starts when I turn the system OFF.

I doubt this is the issue but air will always blow out of the far left and right front dash vents, you can't turn it off.

My car will sometimes blow the incorrect temperature as well, a couple fist pounds on top of the dashboard seems to clear up the issue for me.

After a little more investigation I have found that you cannot control your air temps with the A/C off, it basically lets air flow through the vents at whatever pressure the speed of the car generates. The OFF button does not shut the system down, only turns off the fan but leaves the vent flaps uncontrolled.

Hi 813 Genesis. I'm experiencing the same issue with my new GV80. I took my car to the dealer and they checked the AC system and stated that everything is working fine. Did you find out what is the cause of the issue and how to fix it?

This has been answered several times, but not in this thread. It is even in the owner's manuals. If you don't want it to heat incoming air when it is off, set the auto temperature control to the minimum setting before you turn the system off. Set it to recycle to stop any air leakage for a little while, but it will change back after a few minutes to make sure you have some fresh air.
