  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Don't let your Gennie go nineteen days without starting and running. I did and the battery went dead! At least it was dead enough that nothing worked not even the inside lights or the trunk open button.

After realizing what had happened: too many days with no activity, I spent some time checking the forum and was not able to find out exactly what best to do, whether to jump start or try to charge the battery. (BTW, don't forget the jump start posts are under the hood and battery in the trunk.) I even checked the manual to be certain not to screw up.

Since it was well after closing time at the service dept. at my local dealer, I decided to call the salesman who sold me my Gennie. After chatting about my dilemma he suggested calling the 800 # for roadside assistance. His logic: why take a chance on messing up....let the folks who are paid to do it do it (and it is free)! ;)

I called and they (he) arrived within 35 minutes! It took a jump and his portable charger together to wake Gennie up. :D

Fortunately all settings were saved, phone numbers, sound system settings , seat/steering wheel settings, in fact, everything I could think to check! :D

So, when your battery goes dead, for whatever reason, just call the roadside assistance number (800-243-7766). It is available 24X7, 365 days per year! :) And it is FREE! :D

Glad your story had a happy ending. Another thought if you leave your Genesis for extended periods would be to get an automatic trickle charger.

This is unusual. I don't drive the Genesis in the winter, and it started right up after sitting for months in the garage and I didn't even pull the breaker fuse.

I do plan on using a trickle charger next winter though.

19 days is not normal. This would mean if I go on vacation and leave my car at the airport parking lot I would be screwed!! Did you happen to instal a remote start or alarm or some other electronic device on your Genny by any chance? If not, have it looked into as that is not normal. A couple of months, maybe, but not 19 days.

Any chance you had an iPod or memory stick attached?

I have a trickle charger. I never thought I'd need it for such a short time.

Midnight sun, I do plan on taking Gennie in for an electrical/battery checkup and see whassup.

Mark, I don't have an Ipod and my memory stick wasn't plugged in. I'm wondering if I hit the starter button by accident.....

Oh, well, hopefully service will find nothing and blame me. :) I just cannot for the life of me figure out what I did to drain the battery. :(

Anyway, thanks everyone for the ideas. If I find anything concrete, I'll be certain and post it.

I just bought a V8 (Tech package). After 500 miles (less than a week) I began to have Battery issues.

First the car would not start. The starter solinoid clicks but not enough juice to turn over. A jump starts the car but the battery does not maintain power. I tested the alternator and the tester shows that it is recharging.

I also have had XM radio shut off, radio / navi sound go dead, navigation resetting the programmed route while driving.

Even after recharging to 100%, the batery only has enough juice to start once or twice. This morning, I found something curious. While recharging the battery (charger indicator showed about 90% power) I opened the doors. Immediately the battery dropped to 20% (about 9 volts). As soon as I open the the door the voltage drops. It must be a electronic / computer issue.

As today is a holiday, I will be visiting the dealer tommorow. It's getting me nervous. Did I get a lemon?

If anyone else out ther have found a solution, or can advise what to do, please let me know. I will share any finding I get. I hope the dealer knows what they are doing. At least, I feel a little better that this may not be an isolated issue as I have seen other forums describe the same problems.

If it's charging then it sounds as simple as a defective battery. Happens.

I actually left my Genesis sitting without starting for nearly three months (while I was off on a deployment) and when I got back, the Genesis fired right up with no sweat. I've also had no problems with cold weather starting (although Maryland doesn't get all that cold).

Wow...I didn't realize how many threads we have going about dead batteries. I had 2 incidents myself:

1) 3 day trip and no start. Called 1-800# and they jump started. The dealer later said it was a bad alternator

2) About 1 year later, 2nd dead battery. Went on a 10 day trip! No start. Wife called AAA and they jump started vehicle. Took it to dealer and they said everything was good and I needed to disconnect battery on my trips! Only 10 days.

How many days is considered okay to leave a battery connected to a modern luxury vehicle? I've gone on much longer trips (5-6wks) and my Accord would always start.

Am I doing something wrong? I have no aftermarket alarm or products. I might have left my ipod attached on my last trip. Will that draw down power with the car off? If so, I will make sure that is removed as well before my next trip.

I have a condo down in Florida where I keep a car along with another 30 or so people. The car sees run time 2-3 times a year for maybe a month. The fellow who takes care of the grounds starts all cars every month just to get the juices and oils flowing and takes them for maybe a 1 mile trip. Basically a month is not an issue with any vehicle out there. Should be several months if you ask me. Problem is on the push button sensor type cars is they are always monitoring for a proximity signal which regular keyed ignition cars don't do. This is not a large draw but will kill a battery quicker. Regardless, I would say 2 month should be safe regardless of vehicle.

Did you happen to leave one of your key fobs (smart keys) close to the car while you were away? There is a theory that some internal parts of the DIS fire up when the fob is within a certain range and that starts slowly draining the battery.

14 days in the driveway and DEAD as a doornail.. had battery checked.. battery good.. jumped it started right up. Called Service and they made it sound like no big deal. thats kinda normal ??? A car that can't sit for 2 weeks and NOT go dead.. In plain english THAT SUCKS 2012 Genesis Sedan

As mentioned here, it's definitely not normal. The battery should last longer than that just sitting doing nothing...
