  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Stopped at Wayne Hyundai (NJ)for an oil change and TSB updates on 4.6 Tech. Service Manager said that Hyundai has not released any TSB's on the Genesis yet and that they had not even shipped out any oil filters for the 4.6.. This is in April of 2009...

Obviously, I just turned and walked out the door. This is a classic example of how Hyundai will lose in attempts to upgrade brand image. We want a dealership experience where we can trust the Service Manager, hope for a bit of integrity and an actual knowledge of the vehicles they sell. I will never step foot in this dealership again and advise all Genesis owners to be careful of allowing Wayne Hyundai to ever touch your car.

Perphaps Hyundai USA needs some 'secret shoppers' to go to thier dealerships and fire service managers that lie to customers, and/or are ignorant of thier products/services.

Hyundai has no legal right to fire any dealership employee. The dealerships are independent companies not owned by Hyundai.

I went to a local dealer (not where I purchased my Genesis) to buy some oil filters. The tried to give me a regular metal fitter, until I insisted it was a cartridge filter. After spending 10 minutes looking at the computer, the parts guy finally got a cartridge filter, but when I got home I discovered it was the wrong one. OK, so people who work at the parts department are idiots, but they make a lot less money than anyone who owns a Genesis.

Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt that it is Hyundai's responsibility to automatically ship out parts to dealers. I would think that the dealers have to order the parts they want. So technically he may have been correct in saying that no oil filters have been shipped to his dealership (AFAIK the V8 and V6 oil filters are the same and it is also used on a Kia model). But of course they should have ordered the parts they needed to service the Genesis.

They may not have a legal right to fire an employee but they certainly can put pressure on the dealership. This is a image issue for Hyundai. They need to get their house in order if they expect to be taken seriously as a premium brand...you can't have wildly different experiences between dealerships.

I don't think there is necessarily a widely different experences between dealers. As I described above, a dealer that I went to was just as incompetent with regard to the Genesis oil filter situation.

As far as pressure on the dealer, not as much as you might think. Auto manufacturers must entice dealers to spend millions of dollars to open a dealership and sell their cars, so it is not a one way street. There is not a long line of people who are waiting to open Hyundai dealerships (at least not in these difficult times for the auto business).

You may be right about being taken seriously as a premium brand. The Genesis is a premium car being sold by as a less than premium brand. But that is the reason why the car costs so much less than comparable models. Considering the number of outsourced parts (ZF, Aisan, Lexicon, etc) there is no way the current price is in line with the cost to manufacture and distribute the vehicle.

If you want the premium brand experience, you will need to ante up at least $5K more upfront for the "experience," plus more for the on-going service. I do think Hyundai is going to try and make the experience better than the normal Hyundai purchase, but it takes time to do that.

That's what I'm saying. The experience I've had so far at Round Rock Hyundai has been nothing short of stellar. If the rest of the dealers start providing that experience then this brand is going to be a hit for sure.

Jerry,
No, I did not buy from Wayne Hyundai even though they are the nearest to me. When the Genesis was first launching they told me it would not be avialable until 2/2009. They actually got thier first Genesis 4.6 in December. Maybe there is a pattern here...

I assumed that you didnt, considering that there is a pattern of spiteful dealerships. This is the ailment that Hyundai wears upon itself, and that is the lack of mutual dealership cooperation. They all have a silent competition with each other to out produce one another, and get very upset when you buy somewhere else. I have seen this pattern with both my parents cars and I now know to only go to my purchasing dealer.

I walked into Wayne Hyundai (New Jersey) fully prepared to buy. They have a pricing arrangement with my insurance company, I talked to a salesman and a manager prior to making the drive over there.

I spent about 10 minutes in conversation and then walked out the door. Bad juju.

Too bad Nobama didn't know that about GM!!!!! He didn't just fire them he closed the dealerships so everyone from the owner down suffered.

So explain to me how this is relevant to this thread.

Hey Gibb, How are you? I am the guy that followed you into a shopping center a few months back? Hope you are enjoying your Genny as much as I am enjoying mine. Especially the a/c seats this time of year!
I have heard nothing good about Wayne Hyundai. I was told we they moved away from Mazda, they would improve. I guess not! I use Global for all my service needs. They are a ride, in North Plainfield, but I think worth it.
Where did you buy?

I've actually heard nothing but terrible about Wayne Hyundai. When I called them and stopped by inquiring about a coupe, they treated me like I was a nobody. Why? Because I wasn't over 30 years old? I wasn't trading in a clunker? I didn't appreciate the rude attitude they gave me.
