So I bought a 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate from carvana. It’s been having strange intermittent electrical issues when I shut the car down. Hyundai dealer can’t recreate the issue but I have video evidence and so far only occurs when it’s been driven, not just turned on and off. When I shut the vehicle off, all electronics instantly shut off (no exit logo no music keeps playing) and analog clock resets to 12. Occasionally it will reset my trip and avg mpg and clock. BUT once I open the door, everything goes back to “normal” (if there’s no total reset). When it does this, the analog clock goes back to the head units time (if it hasn’t been reset). The rear sunshade will also go up if it’s down and the AC will go up pretty high and the dash and heads up display with go to the default brightness and settings. Bluetooth connection has never reset though.
Also If I press the start button twice there’s no response, but when I open the door it will say the car is “on” and the car turns on. If I haven’t pressed it, it says the car is “off”. Car starts fine once door has been opened and electrics has been restored.
Hyundai dealer discovered the brackets underneath were bent up into the frame by the drivers door, right where the head unit wiring is. They’re sure the cars been in a wreck before with the damage underneath and think the head unit is the issue. But no one is sure. Some people on the forums have had similar issues and said battery replacement fixed it but Hyundai says the battery is fine and looks new. It’s summer in alabama and my car will say outside temp is 104-107° when I start it but go down to the actual temp once it’s driven. Could the heat somehow be killing the battery? Anyone had similar issues or have a different opinion? Strangest thing is that opening the door fixes the issue. The front bumper has obviously been replaced and had a shoddy paint job with over spray everywhere, saw that someone on a different website said overspray on some of the sensors caused similar issues. No overspray on the inside of the door though.
There have been other rarer intermittent electrical issues like the volume going up and down on its own, and music suddenly playing in slow mo for only a few seconds. Not sure if related. Issues started around the time someone threw an empty water bottle out of their window and I ran over it, sensors went crazy with the triangle and exclamation mark for a few minutes and stopped. The under carriage protector is also not even for a Hyundai Genesis and it’s all messed up so it probably did nothing to protect the wiring underneath but Hyundai said wiring doesn’t look loose anywhere. Carvana has sent an exception to silver rock to fix the head unit but I have 35 days left on my 100 day coverage and we’re not sure how long we’re going to be chasing electrical issues with the vehicle.
Carfax and vin number check out completely clean so we think someone paid cash after an accident (maybe hit an object in the road) to fix it up to working condition and sold it. Only two owners of the car too. This dealership also doesn’t have a reader to check if airbags or wreck was ever recorded. Anyone have any suggestions?? I would attach video footage but will only let me attach images.
