  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know how I can stop the car from starting Sirius XM or the radio from turning on whenever I unplug why phone?

I’m playing music through android auto so when I stop the car and turn off the engine I would unplug my phone. Radio then starts playing some other station. Seems pretty annoying cause when the next time I start the car it turns on the radio with the car.

Turn off the radio. The button on the left. If it is switched on, the normal assumption is you want it on to listen. I've probably driven 150 different cars and they all played something when on.

I thought it had to be on for Bluetooth audio or android auto audio to work. But I could be wrong. Will try that tomorrow.

Thanks

Yes, you turn it on for audio. There is no "neutral" position with no sound though.

I managed to do it, I deleted all the preset stations and also removed everything but the phone mirroring in the advanced menu mode selection tab (AM, FM, sirius, USB). No more blaring of radio static or sirius XM whenever I turn on the car or unplug my phone. It's so peaceful now!

I did almost the same thing I forgot about the preset station that’s why! Thanks!

How did you remove the presets for FM and sirius? I didn't see any options when I checked

My car is parked a bit far away right now so I can't go and check, but I recall I went into the audio screen in the infotainment and then went into the preset tab - there were slots for 5 presets there and I removed all of them by checking the boxes next to them and hitting "remove" which cleared all of my preset stations. I can't vouch for 100% accuracy of these steps but I don't see any sirius or AM/FM radio on the audio widget anymore, that's for sure.

My G80 does the same. The only solution I have come up with is,

Turn off car,
Open door
Unplug phone.

Unplugging the phone with the radio on will cause it to drop into AM/FM/XM source (it will use which ever is the last one you used was).

Unplugging the phone after the car/radio is off and plugging it in before starting the car and it will revert back to CarPlay/android auto.

Unplugging it with the car/radio on and it drops to the next source and will restart on that source when you restart the car.

FWIW my Lexus and wife’s Toyota have the same idiot behavior, But other cars I have owned just went silent until you selected a source.

Yeah that's my current solution too just gotta open the door first. Gonna try and delete the stations like 50jae suggested before I give up

It will always flip back to the AM/FM/XM source if you disconnect before Turing off the car.

I set the FM presets to stations I like and the tune to a station I don’t mind hearing when I start the car. It always flips back to FM and that station unless I use the radio source and change the station.

I'm not so sure about that. Once or twice when I unplugged my phone it switched to Bluetooth and kept my music playing. Don't know how to get that to be the default though. 😔

If that was the last source before plugging in, then it might default to that, thinking about it, mine was defaulting to the jukebox for awhile then it went back to the radio source, I might have put on the radios at some point before/after unplugging the phone.

I wonder if it defaults to whatever the last source used was, CarPlay / android auto are not considered sources but apps.

Ok I realized what happened. Even after deleting all presets it defaults to the siriusxm promotion channel (it didn't when I last checked). It is the one which has no sound so I still don't hear anything at start up or unplugging the phone, and not the one that blares out advertisements.
