  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70
Today I parked my car near a park and two old women in their late 60s stood near my car for a few mins, looking up on the internet using their phone.

When I went near, they were praising about the looks and the interiors of the car. Apparently that’s the first Genesis car they’ve seen in that locality!

What’s the strangest compliment / event that happened to you after getting your GV70?

I haven't heard anything from strangers yet, just some rubbernecking. My friends, family, and my boss, however, are all blown away by it.

Guy: Hey is that an Austin Martin or a Bentley?
Me: No it's a Genesis!
Guy: Woooow that thing is so beautiful! Who makes that?
Me: Genesis

Guy becomes more confused as hell 😂

Have received loads of compliments about the car but the funniest one was when I pulled up at the office in a Mauna Red last fall, then less than a month later I turned up in a Vik Black. My colleague comes up to me, "why did you wrap your car?! The red was so nice!!"

I had an older woman in her 70s walking her dog past my driveway and the metal flake was at its peak in the sun on my Barossa Burgundy GV70 and she stopped and looked at it just as I came outside. She just said "What a BEAUTIFUL car!" Maybe it appeals mostly to older women...? ;) My Aunt in her 60s also had the same reaction and turned to her husband and said "I want one!" She was dead serious!

The guy at the tire shop stood in the window as I pulled up to eyeball it and then called it a Porsche after I already talked to him and he knew it was a Genesis. I'd say that's a strange compliment lol.

A guy at a light honked at me today and motioned to roll down the window, which I did. And he said "Those made by Hyundai?" I said they were made by Genesis but Hyundai was the parent company. "Beautiful color! How does it drive?" I told him it was one of the best I've ever driven so he decided he needed to go look at them. Then the light turned green. ;)

Actually the GV70 is made by Hyundai.

So just need to ask -

What is the official signal to roll down your window now-a-days? I'm assuming the hand crank/circular motion is no longer valid, as those under 25 probably never seen them...and I think some may find a finger motion pushing an air button to be offensive. Do you need two hands, one pointing at the window, and one down? Maybe just scream 'hey...'

Sorry - just re-read this in Jerry Seinfeld's voice.

Just be prepared that they'll respond by announcing, "I have a boyfriend!"

I was thinking about that too! In this case, he just pointed at my window and then pointed downwards. I got the message. The crank would have worked for me too because I'm old enough. ;)

I don't think you really need to be that old to know about crank windows, two of our fleet vehicles are 2014s and have crank windows. Granted most young persons in a field of work where they'd come across a fleet vehicle with cranks probably already know about cranks anyway.

Not sure if this ranks as a compliment but someone made me an offer for mine in a Walmart parking lot, and they said ..... I am serious....

How was the offer? ;)

5K over what I paid for it (I had told him I paid list).

The local dealer is 8k over invoice. He said he had been looking at one for awhile. I have a Cardiff green one, which is harder to find. It only had about 1000 miles on it at the time.

Landscaper at work that I know well (we both have Vette’s) sees me pull in and said nice Porsche

Next door neighbor thought it was a Bentley

Other next door neighbor asks if he can look in it, I’ve had it for a year, I gave him the keys and his wife and Jr year daughter take it out for an hour. Last week the wife and daughter test drove an X3. The daughter gets in as I’m standing next to going over some of basics and her first words are “this isn’t even close, let’s get a blue one.”

Wide range of strangers have commented on it usually at the gas station, black, white, male, female, young, old(er), in a MB, Cadillac, BMW…and UPS truck 😁. He yelled across the gas station parking lot heading in with a delivery “nice car dude”…”thanks man!”

Sitting a shady spot next to the gas station doing emails for work, that Has a Burger King drive through attached and a maybe 20 year old boy is pulling away in a red early 2000’s Volvo convertible (down) and looks over at me and shouts “nice car man!”

It’s been fun 😎
