  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

While looking for something in my settings the other day, I noticed a setting for “Approach”. I’m not where I can look at it right now, so not sure exactly what it says. But the result is that as I get near the car the mirrors automatically fold out before I touch the door unlock button.

So, what the hell is the purpose of unfolding the mirrors? Am I missing something else it might be doing? Why don't they program it to unlock the doors as long as they are unfolding the mirrors. I’m at a total loss as to why I would even care about the mirrors at that point.

Do the puddle lights go on? Makes no difference in daylight, nice on a dark night.

You would not want all the doors to unlock if safety is a concern in this age of car jacking.

Okay, I did not think of the puddle lights. I thought they were coming on anyway, but I could be wrong. I don’t drive it after dark that much.

As to the door locks, what’s the difference whether they all open when I get close or when I push the button to unlock the doors? I’m pretty sure there is a setting for that anyway.

Thanks for your quick response. It’s nice to just get a conversation going on this forum! It’s a great car and deserves a more active forum.

BTW, I see you live in Parrish. My mother lives in River Wilderness and I’ve been there many times.

You can have just the driver door or all doors. I guess auto unlock is subjective for security depending where you travel. I have mine set to not fold.
River Wilderness is across the road from me in Silverleaf. Been here 3 years now.

Approach sounds like a control for the trunk -- get near it with the keys and it opens. I turned mine off.

I don't use the remote at all. Just carry it with me and use the door handle button to handle the locking and unlocking, and yes, peeing on the ground.

The Approach feature (as explained to me) requires you to be at the trunk for around 3 seconds with the key on you and it will open. That sounds like a great feature if you have your arms full. If you never need it- you never need it. I'll leave mine on for those needed moments.

The puddle light approach unfolds the mirrors and shines a pool of light with the wings logo if a keyholder approaches. I live in the dark-dark country and for me this is very convenient (and cool).

Interestingly, I was having intermittent luck with this feature while testing it. Turns out I was parked right next to a garage with remote openers and was getting RF interference.
