  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all...just a little curious as to what you do for a living!

I thought this would be fun and informative and a GREAT opportunity for you to BRAG about what you do without being called out as a bragger!

I work for ULA (United Launch Alliance) in Decatur, Alabama.

We build the Delta II, Delta IV and Atlas rockets that carry Air Force, NASA, NRO, NOAA satellites up to orbit. Check out http://www.ulalaunch.com

I specifically work as a Quality Inspector and travel to Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg AFB to support our launches.

The "St. Augustine" group (Obama's group) came and visited our facility a while back. As the Shuttle nears retirement we are bidding to make our rockets "man-rated" to take its place. Hopefully, by 2015, we will be sending humans into low earth orbit as well as to the moon and beyond. The capability and launch success is there and I am excited to see the outcome!

Ok....NEXT!

Retired FBI agent! That's TOO cool! Not playing down Ping's career any! I have a unique career as well.. I do "Strategic Conceptual Business Development". I help companies keep on top of their competition with competitive analysis and also keep them headed in the right direction considering how quickly things are changing with the internet. I also do SEO (search engine optimization) - where I'm somewhat of an expert - and a little bit of web design...

I don't do anything I'm a retired FBI agent. You all are paying my pension so I can sit home and watch CNBC all day. Thanks!

Ok...Richard....now THAT is bragging!!! HA! Enjoy your retirement and thank you for your service!

Sal...your deeper into the WWW. than I thought!! Sounds like you enjoy your job!

Retired FBI Agent???? No wonder there is so much conspiracy in FL ;)

Anyway, after 10+ years as a Financial Software Consultant, I hung up my gloves and changed business ventures. I now own a catering and lunch services business specializing in Puerto Rican cuisines. My passion has always been cooking food and serving people. My satisfaction is seeing people smile and commenting on how great the food is (not boasting here).

Matt,
When I read 'Decatur', I said "...this guy is 20 min.", then read Alabama and said, "20 hours from here". LOL!!! - We have a Decatur just Northeast of Atlanta.

I work in the Coast Guard as a aviation electronics tech. with 1400 hours of flight time.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

My father was a FBI agent who was forced to retire at the age of 57 (30 years of service). Your pensions are great and you deserve it with all the fine work that you do.

Me, I am just a dentist, but I am very good at what I do.

I spent 32 years at what we eventually built into a top 5 mad ave ad agency. But that was many years ago, in a different age and era (computers had just started coming in as I was going out in 1986) Now I ride my Honda ST 1300 motorcycle, drive and repair my 65 Jaguar xke , have sellers remorse about the Hunter 34 sailboat I recently sold and adore my grandkids. Never learned to play golf.

Territory sales for a HP marketing program, and IT administration for a concrete polishing company, some e-commerce as well.

I'm still a youngen! Pursuing for my masters soon enough.

Robert - Thanks for serving! I actually plan to apply to the Bureau in a few years after I get more experience and the masters.

I have been with Microsoft for a long time and I am currently working on the Windows operating system

Cheers

Thomas

I'm running Windows 7 right now, I love it man! 'cep for the random lock ups, they make me a sad panda :(

Anyway I'm an IT Consultant, not as exciting as building rockets ;) but I enjoy it, I like my clients and it pays the bills. :p

Whew! Feels like 'top this!' I knew Matt was a rocket dude from another post and from some PMs, but FBI... shheeesh...

I have a software company- The Genesis Group (really!). www.GenesisWorld.com (more correctly said- God owns it... I just show up for work).

Thomas... We're testing on Windows7 right now for release later in 09.

Our main customer is Motorola. We have created software that helps manage and do analysis on several of their wireless 2-way communications networks (the end of their business that is doing VERY well). SmartNet, SmartZone, ASTRO(R) and Dimerta and we have 3 more of their technologies that we are creating solutions for right now. Likely if you live in Canada or the US (or UK, Australia, much of Central America and some of Eurpoe) our software is helping run the communication networks that your first responders (cops, fire, etc.) use. Since 9/11 our business has had close to 100% growth each year. We're kind of like Motorola's Skunk Works :). I have 20+ spectacular, smart people working every day to make cities, counties, states, and even countrier a little safer. We play but a small part, but it is very humbling and gratifying when we know that our tools helped catch a bad guy.

I'm a Senior Network Engineer / Architect for a Health Insurance Company, based in Lower Manhattan. I commute (2 hrs) each way, via bus, to NYC everyday.

That's a long commute. But it could be worse, you could be working for a financial company in Lower Manhatten (or maybe I should have said "used to work for").

When I was hired, 1975, mandatory retirement was age 55. Shortly before 1975 maybe 1974 or 1973 there was no mandatory retirement age. I think it was changed to 57 in 1995 or 1994 when they realized they were going to lose their entire senior management all at once.

Where was your father stationed? I was in New York from 1975 to 1995 and Miami from 1995 to 1996.

P.S. I have bought my dentist a new Mercedes in the last four or five years. She is trying to get a Volkswagen out of me right now but I'm resisting.

Psychologist and pilot (not in that order!):D.

DOD/TDY contractor for PTSD/return from Iraq/Afgan. mental health/stress issues (we all need to be ready to be "there" for these men & women--and many have given more than they know...)

Former FAA military mission coordinator/Vandenburg missile shots to Kwajalein & Nevada Area 51 liaison .

Life is good in So. AZ;)

Because there is a mandatory retirement age, presently 57, there is also a maximum age at which the Bureau will hire a new agent. When I was hired the maximum age was 35 allowing you to work 20 years until retirement. You need a minimum of 20 years as an agent in order to receive a pension. They might have moved the maximum age at which you can start to 37 when they moved the mandatory retirement age to 57 but I don't know for sure.

The last I am aware of there were no age restrictions or requirements for non agent positions. However, when I was working the pay and pensions were not as good for non agents.

P.S. Robert is my brother.

Hello world!

I'm in flooring sales for a major flooring contractor in Knoxville, TN, (http://www.frazierscarpetoneknoxville.com). The work I do is mostly related to insurance sales, that is, if someone's icemaker fails and floods the kitchen, or a fire/smoke, or some other disaster that affects the flooring in one's home. My primary customer is State Farm, although our company as a whole handles work for about six or seven major insurance companies represented in our area. I've worked for this company nearly 16 years overall, some while between school in the mid '80s, and the rest over the last 11 years, after I closed a small pro audio business I and a partner owned and operated.

Our company is locally owned, and has been in business since 1953. We handle sales and installation of most every major flooring type. We also do custom (ceramic tile) showers and jacuzzi tubs, etc. We are also a licensed general contractor (up to $1M in liability). We're a fairly large company. Our showroom is approximately 11,000 sf., and additional warehouse space of approximately another 30,000 sf.

It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun. There's a certain residual 'reward' in helping people put their homes back together and restore their lives back to as normal as possible. It puts me and my Genny on the road quite often!

Welcome to my world!

Dan :>)
