  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all.

I'm looking for a 2010 or 2011 genesis and cannot decide on the V6 or V8. I drove a V6 and thought it was quick, and pretty quiet. I'm very interested in a quiet ride.

What does the 3.8 V6 rev at -at 70mph?
Same question for the V8?

I'll assume the one that revs lower will be more quiet. If anyone has a link to data showing how loud/quiet the cars are at highway speed, I'd appreciate it.

many thanks

I am not sure that your assumption is correct and that the noise level difference is going to be based on RPM at 70 MPH. I think they both rev about 2100 RPM at 70 MPH. For 2009-2011, the V8 has a ZF transmission and the V6 has one made by Aisin. Tire noise is going to be big factor in noise level.

My 4.6 revs about 2,000 RPM at 70mph. Both engines are relatively quiet at steady-state. At 70...tire, road and wind produce far more noise than the engine.

Overall, the Genesis is a pretty quiet car. From all the comparo reviews I've read, seems that only the Lexus LS is a quieter car.

yes Same here, my 2012 3.8 (with premium/Tech package) will do same 2000 rpm at 74 (set cruse everyday).

Not sure what the 4.6 revs at 70, but here's a quote from MotorTrend on the 2009 4.6L Genesis.

The Genesis might have been designed and engineered in Korea," says editor-in-chief Angus MacKenzie, "but the 4.6-liter Tau V-8 feels eerily German in its power delivery. It's smooth and linear until about 3000 rpm, then you get a noticeable surge as the engine gets a second wind; old Benz V-8s used to feel just like this. At 3000 rpm in top gear, the Genesis is cruising at 110 mph -- and could do it all day long

i know it wasnt asked. however the 5.0 rspec revs at 1750 @ 70 mph

ppp

For us old guys who remember "blowing out the carbon at highway speeds", doing so in an R-Spec requires lots of rowing the gears or sustained speeds over 140!
:D

Checked RSpec this AM, it is indeed 1750@ 70mph & 26 or so mpg on the "instant mileage gauge"; for which I make no accuracy claim

R-Spec has the new 8-speed tranny which should have slightly taller gearing and thus the lower RPMs. I've read a few reviews that stated the ZF 6-speed on the 4.6s does 3,500 RPM at 135 MPH:cool:

I checked mine very closely during our trip south and 70 mph turns 1800 rpm! This was on a flat highway with no wind from any direction. I verified the speed as closely as I could with the smart cruise @ 70 mph. It's better than I thought. :D

Happy New Year all you gennie lovers! :grouphug:
