If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I bought a new 4.6 and I was reading a Car & Driver review that mentioned that you could run Premium and Regular in the V8. It said that there was not that much difference in performance.

What do most of you run?? What about mid grade?

Regular.

87 Octane - Regular

93 Octane. I paid for the 375 HP, and I want it:D

Spend around $40,000 on a car and not spend $4.00 more for premium for almost 21 gallones of fuel??

I ran regular when I bought it, and noticed I got better MPG's with premium in this specific engine.

Go internet shopping and buy parts for your car to give you 7 HP. Hell of a lot more mulla:)

Been putting 87 since day 1 over a year ago.
In the month of May I tried 3 tankfuls in a row with 93 and noticed no difference.

Went back to 87 and no problems at all.

Thanks everyone, I'll probably try Mid Grade and see if it is a conpromise that saves a few bucks without the lost of 16 HP.

Stoof,

The difference between regular and premium is "7" HP NOT "16"
You won't feel the difference.

So if you put mid grade it could be as little as 3 or 4 HP.

Thanks for the information-great forum

I'll run with premium fuel as long as I can get it under $3.00 a gallon.

Not a bad point HeavyG. My last fueling the Premium 93 octane was $2.89/gallon, or maybe a couple cents less.

I run 3 tanks of 87 and then 1 tank of Premium.

Premium fuel for me..... Although, I will not purchase gas from a station that is more than .30cents more than regular...

It really bugs the hell out of me when I see;

Regular: $2.59
Premium: $3.09

Been running Premium since I got my 4.6 in Feb '09...until my wife filled it with regular this week. I noticed the difference in HP right away, and the computer is registering 3-4 MPG less.

So it will stay premium for me.

I just tried premium for the first time and, though it's inconclusive at this early point, it looks like maybe about a 3 mpg bump. If so, it's enough to pay for itself and then some. :) I'll be keeping an eye on it. Trans seems to be shifting a little smoother, too, but it may be my imagination.

Used 87 octane for first 4000-5000 miles ran great averaged around 24 mpg. Ran 3 tanks of premium 93 octane still ran great, really didn't feel a performance difference and mpg stayed about the same. I'm back to 87 octane and will probably not go back to premium. Especially with the huge price difference. 87 currently 2.59 avg. premium 2.83 avg. So 0.25¢ X 20 = 5.00 and that equals 2 Landsharks! :D Cheers

Premium for me. I've done both and it definitly runs better on premium. Of course I've ALWAYS got my foot on it! I drove a Mercedes E 550 and that thing flew! 6 horsepower less in the Genny, and a lot less torque at low rpm than the Benz. I'm kinda' use to being bushed back in the seat when tromping on it. I definenitly notice the difference in the regular. Long hiway trips, however, will warrant the regular fuel.

Regular. Tried premium and didn't really notice a difference.

Premium for me. I tried an experiment where I would only put $15 bucks in at a time and then try a different gas station. More than the octane, which I have consistently found 93 octane better in all areas than 87, is the brand of fuel. So far, I have found best acceleration and least lag with gasp---BP. Regarding the earlier post of the Mercedes S550, my mother has one and I borrow it once in a while. While the horsepower is similiar, the torque is not. The Mercedes will push you back in the seat and there is no throttle lag. The shifts are buttery smooth and while the ride is firm, somehow it goes over rough roads with no bobbing like the Genesis. I guess the air suspension is doing it's job. There is really no comparison between the two. The stereo is also much better in the Benz. I am not a fanboy of Mercedes but if it cost $50K I would have bought one instead of $40K for the Genesis. To bad they are $100K. Oh well, back to reality.

i have a cat back and realy notice the difference between reg and prem. mostly i commute so i run reg most of the time, prem on the wkend
