  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What keeps the r-spec from handling like a BMW M5 or a chevrolet ss? Is it just weight distribution or does suspension come into play as well?

That big V8 with larger front disk brakes puts a lot of weight on the front end (200 extra lbs compared to the V6), and it has no where near the ideal 50-50 front-rear weight distribution of most BMW's. It is about 54-46 for the V8, whereas the Genesis V6 is 52-48 (both referring the Genesis G1).

I have no idea how a Chevy SS handles.

D all of above: (Weight, weight distribution and suspension engineering)

SS: 3,997 lbs
G1 Genesis: 4250 lbs
M5: 4,387 lbs

What could be done to the suspension to get it to handle better than it does? I'm not dissatisfied with the handling, but I'd like for it to have a bit more. Something to give Infiniti and BMW owners (not the m5) a surprise. Rigid collars and good tires seem like the ideal place to start, followed by what?

I found the rigit Collars, plus some nice tires 20" 245 front, 275 rear set with upgraded rims, got me 90%+ there, adding a nice coilover set such as this one:

Completed the picture and serves as the icing on the cake. But that is just me :D

Tell them your car is better, overall, in many ways and that you paid much less than they did. If a half a second means so much to you, pay the price of BMW admission.

Brains are not something stoooopid people are born with.... or dumbocrapic voters for that matter. ;)

It really is that simple. :D

SS

But handling is much more than that .5 seconds...

The other month I was in a situation on the I85 going at the speed limit, when an old car in front decided to slam thier breaks, created lots of smoke, I managed to change to the other lane on a dime, while the guy behind me was not so fortunate and plowed right into that car.

I pretty sure I would not have being able to do the same maneuver on my orginal stock setup!
Most likely, I would have hesitated, hit the breaks, stopped in time, resulting in the guy behind hitting me instead..
And yes it is Atlanta, where civilized NASCAR is the norm around here... ;)

Funny you should mention that as I too am in the Atlanta area! Did you have a dealer do all of that work or did you do it all yourself? Now you've got me interested!

Great a fellow Atlantean, perhaps we should arrange a meet one of these days, if we are in the same neck of the woods.

The dealers around here will not touch after market stuff, but plenty of good garages around here, other than the shifter, which took a high end shop to make that mod happen, after more than a year and 11 garages later.

Other than the hud, I got everything else done using various trusted garages, primarily due to lack of time.

Please feel free to pm me with any questions that you may have and I would be more than happy to help in any way I can.
