  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I hate to make my first post a question, but I am stumped. I did RTFM, could not figure out a search term, so here goes.

I found this while I was setting up my storage, in the tire repair kit. It is 4 1/2" long, 0.54" in diameter. It is knurled on one end, threaded on the other. It is highly polished chrome, my scanner screwed the pic up.

What is it, please?

Many cars do not have lug nuts, they have lug bolts. Once you take all the bolts out, there is nothing to hang the wheel on to get the bolts started.
You screw that into the top hole, hang the wheel, then start the bold in place. Last, you take that out and put the last bolt in.
Wish I had that years ago with my '64 Karmann Ghia.

Thank you, ED, would never have thought of that. This is my first vehicle with wheel bolts, and I've had well over 20, LOL.

Wait a minute, did my 1969 VW Bug have bolts? Never pulled a wheel on it.

Yes, had you changed a wheel you would have enhanced your vocabulary too. I was surprised to hear Geneis went to bolts after studs and lungs have been perfected over the past 100+ years. They probably have sound engineering reasons, like it save $1.25 a car in cost.

My 62 and 67 bugs had bolts. My last audi had them as well. I remember I knocked off the hubcap clips and put the wheels on backwards. In increased the wheel base. And I also remember paying 15 bucks for a new tire at sears.

Hemm, this one actually looks like it is metal. The one that came with my Audi was plastic.

Definitely solid steel. I'm liking Genesis more and more. Here is a better pic.

Now if I was smarter, I would have put 2+2 to get 4, LOL.

The bolt is one of the four that they pulled to install the wheel locks. They neatly put those 4 bolts in a little bag, in with the tire repair kit bag. Gotta love forums.
