  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What surprises have you "found" in your car...

Not sure if I saw this mentioned, but what surprised me was when I approached my car at night in a dark parking lot, light under the rearview mirrors lit up the ground at my door. Now that is a nice touch. Then you open the door and a light under the door lights up the ground too. Can't see the lights except for the ground lit up.

I took the smart cruise control to the limit by letting it control my speed while the car infront of me was stopping at a red light. The system brought me down to 5 or 6 mph and then canceled cruise control and started with alarms at which time I applied my brakes. LOVE it!!!

I discovered the horn is TERRIBLE.

Gonna need to replace it with a tugboat one, methinks.

Under the passenger seat, under a dedicated "flap" reveals the frame # (not the VIN)..i've owned many cars and this is a first for me. Wrote it down just in case my Genny is ever stolen and the VIN's are removed...smart thinking on Hyundai's part!
It's amazing how much I have fallen for this car since purchasing it last February after trading my 03' Bimmer 745i piece of sh*t money pit. My friends called me crazy for trading the Bimmer for Genny, but what I have noticed is that its all brand preception, and after people understand and realize that Hyundai makes quality, dependable, cutting edge designed cars all their misconceptions are thrown out. It still amazs me everyday I jump in the Genny how much I love it and extremely satisfied with almost every aspect of it, and how much I was being robbed royally when owning that 745, because IMHO the Genny is a far superior vehicle for my needs.:D

I've noticed that every time I press the brake and touch the "Start" button, a smile always appears on my face. Will this go away?

Turning the car on in public is an event in and of itself! The lights do what my cousin can only describe as a "shimmy-shimmy"; They adjust themselves in a way that is just about as cool as the other side of the pillow.

OK, I want to know more about this please! (Still buying my R-spec the end of July, and will get black if available with thanks to the many who replied to my post about what color to get.) What is the "shimmy-shimmy" and what is happening? This should be good. I've never heard mention of this elsewhere on this site.;)

The headlights are active and when the car is started the headlights self level and adjust automaticly when turned on or in auto mode.

Quite a few cars do the same thing now. It's 2 seconds of the headlights' self leveling process every time you start the car that is quite an obvious high-tech demo that you have smart lights on an intelligent car.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Correct... the AFLS headlights go side to side, and up and down. Pretty sweet, especially at night :)

Just got back from a road trip and the nav system learned/memorized our route for the trip home. We used the nav system going but did not follow most of it's directions instead picking our own way. For the trip home the nav system provided directions following the route we drove to get there.

For a new owner, this thread is the best one here.

Just the silly things like the cord cut outs in the LID of the center armrest/console (instead of the base where they normally are--I had assumed there were none) , the shortcut to suspending nav guidance, the inside hand pull to close the trunk lid, putting the rearview mirror switch in the center position to prevent the mirrors from adjusting downward in the "reverse parking aid" mode.... things like that are very helpful, and one does not really get all those from a first read through the combined 739 pages of owner's manual and DIS manual. Trust me, I tried reading them first. Great fun.

I don't know if I found out about the folding mirror trick (2012 R spec & other models?) in this thread or another, but it is not covered in my owner's manual (see page 4-47 for a helpful pic of the mirror fold button on the arm rest and a caution that it works only when the car is on). It's the trick of double tapping the lock button on the fob to fold the mirrors and double tapping the unlock button to unfold them.

I'd have never discovered that on my own, because the owner's manual says that a double click of the unlock function on the smart key does this: "All doors (and trunk) are unlocked if the unlock button is pressed once more within 4 seconds" (page 4-11). Who wants to unlock the trunk when you only want to unlock the passenger doors with the second click? Thus, I never bothered using the fob. By the way, the owner's manual is wrong about opening the trunk with a second click on the fob. Wish I had known that sooner.

I accidentally engaged the panic mode on my key FOB the other day, and my wife said, "that's really a puny sounding horn for such a mean, muscular car - I won't tell anyone." Ruissimo, would you pick up an extra tugboat horn while you're at it and let me know how much it cost?"

The mirror button works for a few seconds after you shut the car off. Don't know exactly how many seconds, but it's worked often for me.

Haven't gotten around to it, mostly because all traffic stops to stare at my Genny anyway. No need for horn use.

Here in Minnesota, they stop right in front of my car!! :( I need a better horn!

Had my 2012 B on B tech for just over 5 months and discovered yesterday that there is a small, protective plastic cover over the backup camera. Dealer should have removed it but probably didn't notice it either.

Outstanding car. Only driven it 1,100 miles so far, but looking forward to a trip this summer.

I have had my Genesis for 2.5 years now and I have just noticed that the hood is aluminum.

Had to check myself and sure enough aluminum it is. At least that part won't rust. :D

For those of you perplexed by the "small opening" behind the rear armrest into the trunk, please read on:

There is a purpose for this, and I used it all the time when I owned my BMW, BMW actually told what the purpose of this opening was (which for some reason Hyundai did not) Included in the cold weather package of my '03 745i was a "ski bag" which worked in conjunction with the "ski pass through". It was used when hauling ski's in the trunk of the vehicle, you would put the ski's into the mounted ski bag that was unfolded out of the center armrest. This is a staple of European luxury rear wheel drive vehicles, and Hyundai incorporated the design in to the Genesis and Equus, albeit I doubt there is much skiing happening in Korea ;) Please see the attached pic of the entire assembly. I broke out my BMW skibag and it fits perfectly in the Genny. I suppose Hyundai assumes that you will provide your own ski bag to use, cause I sure wouldn't put wet ski's thru there without the bag!

So there you go, Problem Solved!

Cheers,
Staz!

If you have the hvac off, and all the windows and sunroof closed, there is little to no air movement, but as soon as you open a window a little bit or open the sunroof the hvac system let's fresh air in from outside, not moving the air with the fan, just letting it in... Easier to notice when on the highway, and when its a bit cooler out
