  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone, been lurking for a couple of weeks and this is now my first post. This is such a great site for Genesis owners. keep up the great work.

I am soon to take delivery on a White/Black 3.8 Tech Genesis Sedan. Are there anything you noticed on yours after you took delivery , that I should be mindful of when I pick mine up.

I have already noted to check for the speaker cover in the trunk, and check tire pressure for 33 PSI as I read a few times theirs came from the factory with 42 PSI during shipment.

Is there anything else I should check for that you guys noticed and needed attention.

Thanks in advance for your response

Depending on the manufactor date yo may want to make sure the Nav has been updated (TSB-63). I believe that cars built in the 3rd or 4th quarter of '08 were shipping with the update. CHeck the TSB section of this forum for greater detail.

If you plan on using your ipod you'll need the cord from hyundai, I would press them to throw that in, it's $30 dollars.

Congrats on the new car!!

Have the wheel alignment check. It often gets messed up in transit.

Look carefully at the interior trim and leather seats (for tears, stains, and seams).

Check the side mirrors for any cracks and seams in the paint, since it appears that they paint over a seam and that shows on some cars.

I don't think you are going to get them to replace a side mirror becasue of what you described. So I don't know what the purpose would be of checking it since it occurs on all the cars.

Thanks,

Can;t wait till it arrives, should be early next week.

Can the NAV update be done by the owner or is it dealer update only.

Thanks, this is the typical stuff I look for on delivery.

Make sure to check the "parking lot attendant" switch is set to "off" in the glove compartment. Otherwise the trunk release button on the remote and the driver's door won't work. Also, make sure the compass in the rearview mirror is set to your region.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Check tire pressure, as in shipment the tires seem to be overflated as mine were, and also others on the forum. You'll get a smoother ride.

I don't know if that's true. My passenger side mirror doesn't have the crack showing through the paint. Driver's side does but not as much as the photo that was posted on the forum.

It's a dealer update, and the dealer is supposed to apply all applicable TSB's before the car is delivered, although it's possible the dealer may not have.

open the sun roof and then get out of the car and make sure they pulled the blue protective plastic off the deflector that pops up on the leading edge of the opening.

it is always missed by the dealer and you will think to yourself WTF is up with this noise on my brand new genesis?!?!?!?!

congrats and good luck!!!:welcome:

hehe thanks for the tip. This reminds me of a test drive I took in a Camry and when I tried to open the sunroof I heard this big RIIIIp. I went Uh Oh ... I think I just bought a camry...LoL. When I got out and look on the roof, the dealer had left the plastic on the roof and the sunroof had started to peel it back like an onion. No damage, buit man did scare the crap out of me .

Count the windshield wipers (there should be 2) and make sure the dealer tightens up the loose nut behind the steering wheel !!:D:D

Look for ANY scratches, marks, drips/runs in the paint, etc. And examine everything in the interior. It's much easier to get minor assembly screw-ups fixed before delivery, or at least noted on the "to be fixed" sheet many dealers use at delivery time. Otherwise they might try to weasel out of something saying "you did it on the way home." Things like chemical stains on the rims (there is another thread about this) or seats, etc. All exterior emblems & trims are straight, properly attached, etc.

See a funny mark, dimple in the bodywork, etc? Compare to other cars on the dealer lot to see if it's intentional or a blemish on just your car. It's a lot easier for you to compare to other cars when other cars are around! There are tiny circle marks in the headlights; at first glance I thought one was a rock/stone chip but it was on all HID equipped Genesis sedans.

A functional check of all electronic stuff is worthwhile of course. An early issue was problems with audio distortion at high stereo volumes; that's been fixed now but I'd still listen to each speaker to verify it functions. I haven't experienced this on a Genesis but a friend's new car had a disconnected speaker - that caused really funky spatial blending issues. The fader/balance controls seemed to work... but the sound was never "even" in that car until the problem was found.

As noted, the dealer is supposed to verify all TSBs have been implemented before delivery. Still worth asking about. My dealer had set the "home state" in the nav system too - something I read "needed to be set by user" when reading the nav system manual and when I went to do it... it was already done. I assume the dealer did it anyway...

Point the car at the dealer's wall, on level ground, and verify the headlight aiming is correct. My folk's Azera was way off in this regard. Cycle the gas cap door a few times too; a few folks have found it can stick/jam.

If you are fortunate enough to be in a state that does not require front license plates, don't let them screw in the front bracket. While the holes can be covered with some caps, it's better with out the holes.

Excellent point. I got "screwed" buying the car in SC, where the front plate isn't required. But the dealer must have thought it was necessary to put their advertisement plate on the front. The kicker is they screwed the plate too tight and which left imprints on the bumper! :(
