  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My (92 year old) mother bought a 2010 red Touring Genesis coupe (no Nav). After a month she hated the color. When I just visited, she had it in for its state inspection. Asked by the dealer how she liked it, she said she hates it.
When I visit (CA to VA) I love it.
Only has 3K miles on it. Kelly & Edmunds don't even show a value for it as a used car yet. Any knowledge-based opinions on what I should offer her for it?
My local broker says it will cost $1K to ship it, but I can avoid sales tax if it's a gift. Are they 50-state emissions certified? He's also getting me a price on one of my own. If I got a new one, I'd probably get the dark gray.
TIA
Don

Given that it is family, and only has 3,000 miles on it, I would pay exactly what my mother paid.

1. Your mom must be an very young 92, to buy a car like that.

2. Salesperson must have taken (verbal) advantage of her to get her to talk her into buying a car like that, and not a sedan.

3. State Inspection?? How long has she owned the car? State Inspections are every year and the selling dealer should have inspected it when they sold it to her.

4. Yes, I believe they are 50 state emissions certified.

5. If you buy it from her, why not just fly to VA and drive it back to CA?

6. If you don't have time for (5) above, shipping should be fine, but I'd rather drive it myself cross country.

7. Why bother dickering with a dealer for your own new Dark Gray one when you can buy your moms, probably at a very reasonable price, and you will have a Win-Win situation for both of you.

8. Check with the CA-DMV on the tax thing. Don't just go by what the transport broker says.
