  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys, I own a Genesis gv70 2.5T select with the base 9 speaker system. I don't know much about audio systems, but I know enough that the base speakers on the GV70 are pretty lacking. They don't feel like they have enough depth, and listening in low volumes doesnt create the best experience. You really have the crank up the volume for the speakers to pop even a little bit. I listen to mostly hip hop and pop music, so I can tell the low frequencies are bad. Only thing I think is decent are the tweeters, but again I don't know much. I was maybe thinking that I should just get a nice amplifier and maybe a subwoofer. What are your guys opinion?

Thanks

What comes with the base 9 speaker system? I have the Lexicon and hated it at first, way to much in your face mid-range that I found fatiguing. And I own Klipsch RF7III's! Eventually adjusting the tone and fade helped me tremendously. I started out always using forward fade which helped with both bass and mid-bass. This also enhanced the already forward sounding mids. Knocking them down to a -5 or -6 took care of that resembling the sound of an older car that I had a competition audio system in.

This allowed for a more even sound allowing detailed bass to be heard clearly. I have found turning the bass up to 8 allows the system to give good pressurization, provides that depth you crave, and it works well on most satellite stations minus a hip hop and contemporary jazz I saved. Then bass gets lowered of 1 or 2. Another thing I noticed was that fading to the rear allowed me to keep that forward sounding front stage yet benefiting even more from the rear speakers lower end reproduction.

I have never owned a vehicle where I used rear fade this much. My car audio life was all about front stage. Then again, I never owned a vehicle that had so many mid and upper range drivers in the front especially the reflective dash. I now have satisfying listening sessions with rear faded mid-range attenuation and slight treble increases. If you want ridiculous bass there is a thread about adding a subwoofer here in GV70 forum. I have a box of dual sealed tens along with a now out of production Phoenix Gold(?) Bass Cube (constant usable bass equalization... allowing for center frequency and boost amount choice) from my old comp car that I could install but right now the system isn't providing me with any motivation. So give rear fade setting and mid-range reduction a shot and see if helps at all. My rear fade is 3 or 4 clicks back.

I think you'd benefit from a small 8-10" subwoofer. They sell them as combos or you could by separates. If you give me your budget, music preferences, and how much bass you're looking for, I can guide you in the right direction. you're also going to need a LOC line output converter. This device takes a signal from the factory speaker wires and sends the signal to the subwoofer amplifier.

Can you please send pictures of your audio settings? Treble, bass, mid range, tone and fade? Thank you!

Agree with this!
