Yeah, for some reason the best memories are of the early years...even though those cars were way less expensive than what I've owned over the last few decades. In fact, I forgot to mention my motorcycles...I do miss those the most...except for the part where people constantly try to kill you when you drive them...or when you get caught in a downpour, with no cover to hide under...or when you hit a patch of loose gravel or freshly applied asphalt sealant and go for a 200 foot ride on your side...or.....
P.S. The Dodge Omni GLH turbo yielded one of my best stupid driving stories. I was young and stupid and trying to get to work in 1/2 the time. As I was passing cars in the left lane...at about 40mph faster than they were going, a guy pulled out in front of me....5 feet in front of me. I slammed on the brakes but it was obvious I wasn't going to make it so I yanked the car into the next lane over...except it wasn't a lane but that thin divider between the left lane and the concrete highway divider. The rear started coming loose and I countersteered as I let up on the brake but stuff was happening way too fast for my inexperienced driving skills and next thing I knew I was spinning down the road. I hit the concrete barrier with, not one, not two, but all four sides of the car, jettisoning the front and back bumpers, like a ship trying to dump ballast. I still am amazed at the other drivers skills on the road. No one hit me or the various parts of my car strewn on the road, while I pirouetted down the freeway. When I came to a rest I ran out and removed my bumpers and other large and obvious body parts blocking the freeway and then limped my car over to the right hand side and parked, trying to decide what my next move was. Could I limp it to work on the side roads? Next thing I know a cop pulls up behind me with his flashers going. He steps out and asks me if I just had an accident. Without hesitation I looked in his eyes and told him, "No, all this stuff happened earlier, and I'm just driving the car to the body shop." He must have been in a hurry and not wanted to deal with the paperwork, because just as quickly, he responded, "OK, please drive careful." and went back to his car and drove off.
