very hard to find out where to buy the official genesis extended warranty. calling genesis corp doesnt help as they only administer the warranty claims. not all dealers sell the official plan. i know on honda i bought, i bought the extended honda warranty over the phone from a dealer in another state. does anyone here know of a dealer that gives good deals on the official genesis plan that i can call directly? there has to be some somewhere.

¿Por qué no mencionas su ciudad y estado?

location is not relevant in my question. i was wondering if there was a dealer anywhere in the usa that was selling the discounted official warranties over the phone. i did that for my honda when i bought it.

I don't know about Genesis Motors, but Hyundai issued a decree to dealers to not sell them out of state. But I am not sure if that is legally binding.

Did you verify that Genesis Motors does in fact have extended warranties in place? Did you ask a local dealer (contact their finance department). According to their website, they are still working on getting a CPO program in place (which extends the powertrain warranty to non-original owners of used cars).

Genesis Motors seems to be in a state of confusion right now, because they are apparently still working on finalizing who will an authorized dealer starting with 2019 models and going forward.

so.....i talked to genesis corp about the extended warranties. they confirmed they can be bought from a genesis dealer. even if you buy a privately owned or preowned from a non genesis dealer. i called several local genesis dealers and one said they did not offer the genesis one and another said they did, but that the fidelity warranty plan was better and cheaper. just repeating.....

the cpo thing is interesting. most dealers i talked to that had used genesis cars were not cpo ing them. they said it costs them nearly 1500 bucks to do it. one dealer said they were a genesis dealers and sold g80's but didnt sell g90s (and their lot inventory confirmed that) so they were not allowed to do the concierge service anyway.

the only advantage of the cpo is the 120 month/100k powertrain and the concierge service. the connected services does transfer to second owner not matter who you buy it from.

still gathering info. i really like the g90 ultimate and 2017's used are a ton cheaper than new.

on a different note, the only difference i could see between a 2017 and 2018 g90 ultimate is the inclusion of the rear seat video monitors on the 18 which i dont care about at all.

thanks

There are two costs. One is a payment to Genesis Motors (or Hyundai for prior models), and the other is the cost of doing the inspections and making any repairs. The quote of $1500 is probably about $750 for each part, and some dealers don't really even do much of an inspection.

There are several old threads about Hyundai dealers who sold the extended warranties on the phone for the Genesis (pre Genesis Motors). If you can find those, they may also do it for Genesis Motors vehicles, assuming they will be a dealer for those going forward.

I’m a little confused between VSP and CPO. Are they are two different things? If so I think the OP was asking about VSP. Here is what Genesis has on its finance site about VSP https://www.genesisfinanceusa.com/gpp-mechanical-coverage
The VSP (Vehicle Service Protection) is basically the same (and pretty much same coverage) as the Hyundai HPP Extended Warranty. The term and miles and deductible can vary. It can be purchased at time of new vehicle coverage, or at a later time, but there is some time limit (I think when new car warranty runs out). It does not have to be purchased at the dealer where the car was purchased.

A CPO (certified pre-owned) is a used car that has the powertrain warranty (10 year - 100K miles, for original owners only) restored to a used car (non-original owners). The dealer who offers a used car as CPO has to pay HMA or Genesis Motors a fee for this, because the warranty is honored at any dealer and provided by Genesis Motors. The dealer is also supposed to do a 150 point check-list of the car to make sure everything is working OK.

Note that the 10 year - 100K mile powertrain warranty for original owners is only for the USA, for Hyundai or Genesis vehicles.

has anyone had luck with the fidelity warranty on their genesis g90? about 400 bucks cheaper than the genesis plan. but reviews are all over the map for it. i rather like the idea of having a factory warranty. we keep cars for 9-10 years and put alot of miles on them.

Your location is very relevant to your question. For example, if you live in Florida, you have to buy the warranty in that state. It's the law.

Also, the warranty seller, whichever the state, may demand to inspect your car before selling you the warranty. Mine did. How far are you willing to drive?

So, in summary, nobody here cares where you live, but it would be wise to mention it if you want advice.

Hasta luego.

There is one other possibility for anyone who a member or eligible for membership in the United Services Automobile Association (USAA). This for active and former military members and their families. I got their Manufacturers "Wrap" plan at about a third of the dealers discounted plan.

Basically they will cover everything Hyundai/Genesis doesn't up until the end of the drive train warranty (10 yrs in my case.) The Genesis warranty covers all their usual periods before that, but then the wrap coverage picks it up. I really liked it because all the electronics are covered for 10 yrs now as well as bumper to bumper.

I found there are several credit unions where I could have bought essentially the same plan but they cost a bit more.

i live in arizona. and on my honda crv bought a honda factory warranty from an out of state dealer and it worked at honda dealers here in az. maybe it is state by state

i will look into the usaa wrap as i am former military

thanks

That is the same way the Hyundai and Genesis extended warranties work. It is just that at one time, Hyundai asked dealers to not sell out of state, because some dealers where selling on the phone for such a low price, and word was getting out on forums, that other dealers complained about the competition.

As I said, I am not sure if Hyundai can enforce the in-state only directive, or whether there are dealers who will still do it on the phone for out of state customers. But if they do, it is honored at any USA dealer.

With all the active and retired military out there, the state insurance board should be no problem. If you become a member, check their insurance program as well. Not the cheapest but great service worldwide. Check Consumer Reports for their historical rating.

Since it's a membership organization a certain portion of reserve is put into a savings account by member. After some time you start getting annual discounts and rebates based on how much business you do with them and your driving record.

I don't work for them, they have done all my auto and home insurance since 1962.

When I bought my 2012 4.6 with 3,300 miles on it from a Hyundai dealer, I purchased the "Certified Pre-owned Wrap Vehicle Service Contract". It's pretty good coverage, although it excluded the laser cruise control module, which cost $4,500.

My dad was in the military so that's how I got USAA coverage. Anyone ever have to use their USAA warranty? How well does it work vs Hyundai?

I beg to differ. Florida dealers (Ford, Chevy, Honda, .....) all say they cannot discount extended warrantees, because the Florida insurance commission says so. But that is total BS, an excuse to keep prices inflated at MSRP. And because of this, many out of state dealers will not sell extended warrantees to Florida residents.

BUT - if you are a Floridian, and you make enough (out of state) phone calls, you WILL find a dealer who will sell to you at a substantial discount.

I am a Floridian, and have bought OEM extended warranties from out of state dealers for 1/2 of what Florida dealers wanted, for Honda motorcycles, Mercury, Ford, and Honda cars. And the warranties I bought were all honored by Florida dealers.

So all my fellow Floridians - do not be suckered into paying full price for extended warrantees from Florida dealers.

When my factory (5 year) warranty is nearly up on my G80, I will call every USA Genesis dealer until I find one that will sell me the extended warranty at a steeply discounted price. And if anyone has already been able to buy an OEM Genesis warranty on the cheap, please post the dealers contact info.

Please let us know when your warranty will expire so we will be sure to check where you bought your extended OEM warranty.
