If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

this is from what I posted in another thread.....

This is What should be done when purchasing, what is for the majority of us, the first or second most expensive thing we own. Research the reliability, performance and cost/economy of all cars that meet your needs and appeal to you and what you can afford. Then through research, weed out the unreliable, too expensive for you to operate, and ones that will not meet your performance preferences.

After the first "weeding out"Then take several test drives in the three or four cars left on your list(could be more). Then when you have it down to two or maybe three then take 3 or 4 long test drives in each on the kind of roads you normally drive on if not the exact same roads. If its a tie then find the one that is the best deal. It seems a lot of people don't do their homework and don't consider the importance of the costly investment of a new car.

I would ask the neighbors which car they would be most impressed with, then buy it!!

Good Idea.

This works too. And works well if you don't drive much.

First of all none of these cars are true competitors with the possible of some overlap in pricing. The Buick which is a deluxe Malibu and Regal is FWD and 4 and 6 cyl. If I was in the market for a GM product I would consider the Malibu LTZ over either Buick because you get the same powertrains, engineering, warranty and build quality for far less money. The Lexus shares the same FWD architecture with the Camry, Highlander, Avalon, RX350 and ES350 so it more or less becomes how much do you want to spend and how important is the badge. All of these cars are well made and reliable. None of the FWD cars are very inspiring to drive. I am personally not a fan of FWD because it asks the front wheels to do everything while dragging the rears are only needed to hold up the rear of the car. FWD cars are complex to service, have excessive understeer and front tire wear issues. Our last FWD car was my wife's Saab and it was truly a nightmare to drive and service. For my driver I will continue to buy RWD until it is no longer available anywhere. For my own use I have only had 1 FWD car in the last 44 years and I have been known to change cars often and have had several for my own use at one time. My wife has had a Pontiac Phoenix(true junk), Maxima, Tauru SHO and a Saab Viggen for her FWD cars. We have never used snow tires anywhere we have lived(NJ, IL, Mich) for cars like Trans Ams, GTOs and Mustangs we have had. I have been extremely happy with the Genesis V8 that I have. I selected it over certified pre-owned BMW 550i, Mercedes E550, Lexus GS460 and Infiniti M V8 equivalents and have never regretted it. None of the cars you have mentioned were ever on my radar to buy but none would be a bad choice either. I would drive and research each one carefully before you buy. Remember, after the new wears off, the payments continue.

The buick is a fine car, I test drove it I liked it but sadly its front wheel drive; the AWD is only available in the less powerful of the two engines (crazy stuff). Having owned a Lexus a few years back I can say their service is very good, with that said the GS is an aging design and their nav system needs serious updating. Ok so that is my take on those two.

Here is what I was comparing last month when I was shopping. I had a Mercedes lease, I was going to go to a new E class, but I was also looking at the Genesis, Ford SHO, Mercedes GLK, and Buick Lacross. I know those are all very different cars but I like cars so I really shop across the board. At the end of the day it came down to the E class and the Genesis. The Genesis cost me 20k less than a comparable E Class and I think the comfort level in the Genesis was higher. I don't know maybe I was tired of sitting on those hard Benz seats. I guess I was just expecting more from the E Class; my business partner has an S Class and I had a C Class so I figured E Class (mid level) would be a mix of comfort... it wasn't. It felt too much like my C Class (2008).

So I went with the v8 Genesis; it has quite a few German parts to it, transmission, steering column, I believe some suspension parts (the same is not true of the v6 from my understanding). However the v6 is still a fine car; I just wanted something that rev'd less and hauled a**. :-)

Good Luck with your shopping!

The LaCrosse and the Genesis is very similar in terms of loaded equipments, IMO.
- Laminated glasses on the front half
- higher-end audio system(optional equip.) although the Lexicon wins hands down
- power rear sunshade
- spacious interior
- heated/cooled front seats; Genny has the cooling feature on the driver's seat only
- classy exterior

I own a V8 tech, and I've also driven the LaCrosse CXS(top trim) with all the options minus the rear entertainment system.
I would say the LaCrosse handles a little better even with FWD drivetrain, but the Genesis is much more refined.
Smoother V8/ZF transmission operation is just superb.
The suspension, however, is slightly better on the LaCrosse(with the electro-magnetic suspension; NOT user adjustable).
Mine is an '09 with the mid-cycle change in suspension, so I cannot comment on how it stacks up against the '10 or '11 Genesis.
But overall, I liked the LaCrosse's suspension. (Please keep in mind that I'm talking about the CXS trim specifically)
With the DI V6 in the Buick, it's no slouch. The car accelerates pretty fast but with some rough engine roar that's quite audible.
Not sure if this is something that you're looking for, especially in a comfy semi-luxury vehicle.
Again, the Genesis V8 is much smoother during acceleration.

The ES350 is also a very good car with plenty of creature comforts, and it comes with Toyota reliability.(Not sure if the term is still valid these days :D )
I would say it probably has the most comfy/cushy ride among the three, and the interior quality is on the better side of the 3 with the Buick lacking the refinement.

Hope this helps.

my genesis rattles a lot, the hyundai dealerships suck

the lexus ES is cool if you're a 70 year woman and love toyota camry's

buy the buick - it's a slick ride.

I recall my submission, buy the Taurus SHO - Ford has a great product. Awesome technology too . . .

We drove the LaCrosse and the older Lucerne a few days prior to buying our Genesis.

The Lucerne was of course squarely targeted toward the old lady demographic. Nice car, but dated styling...

The LaCrosse actually was nice to drive, but the interior styling really turned me off.

I imagine a bunch of twelve year olds sitting around in a focus group for the interior design. :grouphug:

There is a useless lighted blue strip that sweeps across the entire dashboard...WTH is the purpose of that?

Everywhere there are blue glowing strips around the radio, the door handles, the door pulls, the center console, etc...

The instruments are also just a blue blur surrounded by chrome bezels

...drive it at night before you buy...

According to JD Power's most recent dealer CSI rankings...

Ford dealerships "suck" even more.

Other than the questionable suspension (which bothers some people more than others), the Genesis wins hands-down, IMO. Make sure you test drive whatever Genesis you wish to buy extensively before making a final decision on it, though, as that's definitely the biggest point of regret for the group of unhappy Genesis buyers that's out there.

The customer service you get at your dealer is unfortunately a massive crap shoot. There are probably more Lexus and Buick dealers that will downright impress you with their service than there are Hyundai dealers that will do the same, but that doesn't guarantee a positive experience with Lexus/Buick or a negative experience with Hyundai -- it's hugely dependent on the individual dealership (more specifically, the owner and managers of the dealership) than anything else.

I'm sure there are some who will disagree, but the most impressive part about my family's Genesis is the build quality. 35k+ miles and still no rattles, no real problems whatsoever (other than some random DIS gremlins that aren't too bothersome, are easy to fix, and haven't shown up in a few months now.) It's the exact blend of features and value we wanted (without even realizing it initially), it looks good, it's different and just works. The warranty is outstanding, and if you manage to find a dealership with service people you like and trust, I can only predict that you'll love your Genesis. We do. :)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have good friends who just bought each and I have the 4.6 Tech. The couple bought the Buick because it has "lane notifaction system", but he agrees that my Genesis is much better looking. The lady likes her 350, but says mine is much more luxury. Genesis handles better because rear wheel and is in the "Luxury" class by Consumer Reports. Other two are not! Also, new Consumer Report rates Genesis best value in class. I LOVE IT!!!!
Black on black

Two cars in my final choice were the Genesis and the Lacrosse. The rear visibility of the Buick was a deal breaker. It was very difficult to look out the back rear to merge to the right. The Genesis visibility, while not as good as a 2008 Taurus or AMC Pacer:D, was okay. The base Genesis has been very good.

Enjoy whichever car you ultimately choose.

There is no decision here. Give me a v8 and 385 hp and a ride similiar to a BMW and you have a 4.6 Genesis! I came out of two LS 400s and have not looked back! This is not about money. It's about what car turns you on when you drive it. Remember that this is a 3-4 year decision.

Today my wife and i drove a 2011 Genesis and a 2010 lacrosse. We both liked the Genesis much better then the Lacrosse. The main reason was that the rear window is too small which made rear visibility very poor. Tomorrow we will test drive the Lexus ES-350. The Lacrosse is off our list.

I tried the LaCrosse and liked it except for the feeling of being in a tank. As others have mentioned, the visibility out the rear window was poor. I was not that impressed with the sound system either.

I had the same choice, I drove the 2011 Genesis 4.8 and was very impressed by the car. This car clearly has the attributes needed to compete in this segment. I bought a 2011 Lexus G450H that was considerably more capital outlay, but the Lexus quality and service are far advanced, While the Genesis has surpassed expectations
