  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to purchase a new transmission and wondering who sells them new. The only place I lve seen is auto zone and it comes with a four year warranty? Preferably it would be nice to get one in Canada as thats where I'm located. I have a 2012 3.8L sedan.

Dealer may be your only option here. Nothing on the Hyundai Canada website, and their customer service chat said this in bold:

Hi. Welcome to Hyundai Canada. This is <deleted> and I will be happy to assist you. Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with today?

This question is best answered by one of my colleagues from your local dealership. I will be happy to locate the closest one to you and share its contact details with you. May I have your postal code please?

Are you looking for new new, or reman? The ones from Autozone are going to be remanufactured units. From what I've seen of AZ transmissions in the past, they reuse all the old sensors on the transmission. Reman transmissions from Hyundai will come with all new sensors. The reman units from Hyundai are just as good as new ones. I put a reman in my sisters 2005 Elantra, and 250k miles later, it's still going strong.

I agree with the reman units. OEM Remans will replace the clutches, valve bodies, etc. so only the metal parts are "old" and almost never an issue.

Ok thanks guys I contacted my local Hyundai dealer i can get one for $3200 taxes in and my mechanic says about $450ish to install. Seems like alot for the tranny to me? Maybe im just used to rebuilding 4spds

Sounds about right from the couple of people I know that had trans issues. Have you looked at rebuilt? Used is cheaper yet but riskier and the labor would be the same.

Thanx EdP im gonna stay away from a used one. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on one from Hyundai. Didn't know the trannys were such a nightmare in these things!

Maybe ill just put an LS in it with a 4L80E 🤪🤑🤔🤫

Foreign sole source (monopoly) = high price. It's what you get with the Genesis: Cheap to buy, expensive to repair.

Have you priced out a rebuild at a local tranny shop? Comparing to the price of a guaranteed rebuild I could better decide. Are you doing the swap or paying?

Just as a heads up/ follow up! the tranny that was giving me problems was not the original. It was from a salvage yard and it was from a 2013 genny. So I would hesitate to buy a used one just my 2 cents worth. My new tranny from Hyundai is in and it shifts good so far! I feel like it downshifts alot faster when merging onto the highway. But Hyundai did forget to install the wiring harness inside the transmission when it was rebuilt.

Ok, so I know this thread is a year old, but what did that $3200 get you? I have started looking at prices for a new transmission for my 2011 4.6L and the prices I'm seeing are over $8k!

I'm obviously going to talk to a local shop first to see if they can diagnose what I'm seeing. But at 177K I am kind of expecting it to be nearing the end of its life.

I had mine replaced under warranty in July 2021 @ 79k miles. It is a reman unit. The invoice had the following costs on it. RMAN AUTO TRANS: $3880.65. CORE RETURN -$1000. TOTAL PARTS: $2889.65. TOTAL PARTS and LABOR: $3401.45. Overall if I didn't have the warranty, for a reman tranny this cost doesn't seem that bad. Would that have been what I paid with no warranty at the dealership? I don't know.

The 2009-2011 4.6L engines came with a ZF transmission, so yes, $8k+ is correct. In 2012, Hyundai started building their own transmissions for the V8s.

I had mine replaced under the manufactures warranty. I think the cost (covered by the warranty) was $8K+.
