  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Didn't really realize how much negative camber was dialed into the rear of this car until I wore through a tire last night. If these are only gonna be 10-15k tires, I'm not thrilled about buying expensive replacements.

Anybody had pleasant experiences with anything super cheap? I seem to remember an off-brand that folks were talking about when I first joined here, but couldn't re-find the thread.

Also, has anybody gone so far as having their rears remounted to opposite sides to try and extend the service life? I'm talking about having a tire shop take them off the rims and mount them on the opposite side's rim.

So, just to tack onto my own thread, I decided to roll the dice on a pair of Lexani LX-Twenty tires for the rear at just over $100/ea from Amazon. We'll see how they do and decide what to do with the fronts in the next few months. I'll let you guys know how they seem vs the Goodyears they replace.

I did not realize until the light of day what a bicycle tire the spare was, though and am strongly considering buying a beater takeoff front wheel and rotating one of my fronts over to be a full-size spare. Is there any offset/clearance issue running the front wheel in back? The trunk recess swallowed the full size rear much better than I'd have guessed, so I think a front wheel could go there without making the trunk goofy to use, possibly with relocating the tools to a small toolbox/similar.

I've been using Prinx HiRace on my 2015 5.0 for almost a couple years. I get the same or better life out of if them as I did with Continental DSW's that are about twice the price, at 20-25k miles. They are not as good in rain when they start to wear compared to the DSW and I've only driven in very light snow in them, but with no worries

Buy at Discount Tire. Tere is a tread wear warranty on many tires, but the rears only get half the warranty. So, if you buy a 60k mile warranty tire, and you only get 15k, you only pay half for your next tire plus mount and balance.

I got a 19" wheel for my full size spare. it fits in the tire well, but I did have to shave the foam for the jack mount to fit it in the tire. The factory spares are crap. They disintegrate in about 5 years even when they aren't used. I have had 3 bad temp spares on my 2 Genesis vehicles. Unacceptable!!

My stock spare is horrible. Made the entire car vibrate at anything over 35mph.

I've never succeeded in getting a warranty kickback from them, though I've bought from discount a handful of times over the years. My local store always acts like shoulder-heavy wear voided the warranty, which is how the fronts are without the ability to rotate and looks like how the rears wear from the camber.

Rubber pieces fell off of mine
Mine looks kind of that way. In fairness, it's probably a decade old, but felt new and rubbery when I put it on. It got me home (at 50mph) on a road trip at night, but the car was pretty unpleasant to drive. Such a different tire profile/width than the other rear made for a really weird, wallowing/skating sensation anytime the suspension compressed over a dip/rise in the road.

I realize I'm just complaining about spec decisions made by Hyundai a decade ago, but damn, what an inadequate tire! All the compact spares I've had before would at least ride halfway okay. I bet my wife's Ford Focus has a more substantial spare than Hyundai supplied their 4500lbs car. Might not have been so bad with a live axle or less camber, but it really felt sketchy.

You guys that added a front-width spare, did you find a matching steel rim or just buy an extra factory front wheel second hand?

Discount Tire had an aluminum rim that was inexpensive and fit. The rim and tire together were around $300. I had to shave the Styrofoam piece that held the jack to make everything fit. They could not get a steel rim that would fit. The new spare had a different lug nut seat, so I keep the lug nuts for the spare in the trunk as well.

So rear tires was a stupid odyssey of delays that ended in a "we're sorry for the trouble" discount on some Nexens from a local shop. But resurrecting this thread to alert you guys to a screaming deal on some Kumhos Walmart has on sale right now -- just bought some to replace fronts: Robot or human?
