If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why is 14 speaker lexicon speaker system so subpar compared the 17 speaker system?

Okay, so I just got a 2015 3.8 with signature and tech package (no ultimate package) so it has the 14 speaker system. I have had a 2011 genesis 4.6 with the 17 speaker system for a while now and that system is awesome. Same can be said about the 2018 Genesis G90 17 speaker system I've listened to. So back to the 2015, I find the 14 speaker lexicon to be very underwhelming. I was obviously expecting it to be a little worse than the other 2 with the 17 speaker system because well there are less speakers and it's a lesser system, but the difference is massive. The quality of the mids and highs are just terrible and cheap on the 14 speaker. The bass is clean though and almost as good as the 17 speaker though. Yes, I have tried to eq it and it doesn't sound any better. I find it doesn't sound much better than the bose car audio i've heard in GM (if anything, the lexicon sounds worse). Anyone else had this experience? What makes the 17 speaker so much better than the 14 speaker lexicon? Is it possible it isn't burned in because the car only has 45,000 miles on it? Sorry for this unorganized post, any replies are appreciated.

The Ultimate head unit and amp are different so the dsp may be the bigger factor in sound clarity than the number of speakers. The ultimate sound clarity is exceptional although the bass is a bit weak.

Thanks for the reply! I figured there was something going on with the amp or dsp. The 17 speaker system is great and has enough bass for my tastes, it's the mids and highs clarity where the 17 speaker really excels. The 14 speaker is just subpar compared the 17 speaker.

The Bose system used in many upscale GM models does sound good and has a lot bass for a stock system. My old 2014 Buick Lacrosse Premium II Bose system actually sounds better than my current 17 speaker Lexicon system in my 2015 Genesis; the Bose had excellent highs and vocals with strong bass that is clean, which can vibrate the rear view mirror. I had to add an aftermarket subwoofer to my current 17 speaker Genesis to get any clean bass that I can actually feel.

Lexicon is a good sounding stock system; but not one of the best sounding I have heard over the years but good enough for my commute to work and back.

I would assume the difference in sound quality among the two Lexicon systems is related to power output, processing and sound staging; where as the 17 speaker system has the upper hand.

Hey so I just picked up a 2015 3.8 sedan with the 14 speaker system and personally I’ve never heard the 17 speaker system before. I noticed when I was playing around with the eq that if I turned the mids all the way down it’s sounds much better. Personally I love it but I’m also not the most educated in the sound system world haha. If I heard the 17 speaker system before this reply would probably be different.
