  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ok, maybe I'm missing something, but the ONE little snag, holding me up from jumping into the Genny, is that I don't seem to see a way to program commonly used phone numbers into pre-sets, that you can easily access via the DIS wheel.

Is there one?

If so, please tell me where, shut me up, and I'll go plunk down for the car on Monday.

If not, then what plausible reason is there that Hyundai could have missed something this BASIC?

Not sure what you are asking? My wife's blackberry phone book is uploaded to the genny and phone numbers can be dialed by selecting the name using the DIS knob or call by voice command, which is what we do most of the time.

I know you can do that, but most luxury cars today, have phone number "pre-sets" on a bank, that you can easily dial up and activate via the car's control.

How come the Genny doesn't allow for say 6, 12 or 18 "pre-sets" of phone contacts that can be called easily?

Also, I had trouble hanging up from the steering wheel last time I was noodling in a test drive car.

Is that possible?

Yes by pushing the phone button on the steering wheel once or cancel/end call with the DIS knob or voice command.

There's no way to delineate subsets of phone book contacts from which you can select a number to dial. But since you can dial any contact by voice command, I'm not sure why you would need that.

Thanks waveman. It's just sort of an picky organizational preference. Most cars call these lists "Speed Dial" panels. I like to just visually see the names of the top 6-12-18-whatever people I call most often.

Much like the iPhone itself allows you to make a "favorites" list, I wish the Genny allowed for making a favorites list with the phone interface.

Given how no other car-maker has perfectly nailed every one of my preferences on the now increasingly complicated electronics interfaces, this is nothing to get worked up about.

NOW... if you want ANNOYING, then you want my current 2005 Acura TL. Yes, it has bluetooth - BUT! - when you call somebody, it will NOT pipe the call into the car stereo UNTIL the person picks up the phone!

So you must sit there, and either manually switch the phone to handset and put it up to your ear to hear it ringing, or watch the screen to see when the timer starts so you know the other person has picked up, or have an awkward "hello... hello?" start to every phone call.

Of course, the car also has a cassette deck, so making bluetooth work in 2004 was probably close to a miracle.

:)

Yeah, I know that we all get used to certain ways of doing things - I do that a lot myself.

Overall, my experience with the iPhone and the Genesis has been very good, though that's in comparison to a car where there was no integration - I used a Bluetooth hands-free set. I like the way I can dial my contacts by voice. I always glance at the display to make sure that it's calling the right person, though, since it can mess up if there's a lot of ambient noise. The call and sound quality are also much better than they were through the Bluetooth device.

The only sticking point now is that incoming callers' info is no longer displayed. I'm attributing that to an iOS update, since it worked before. I hope that iOS 5 fixes that.

Anyway, good luck with your purchase. I love my '11, and the '12's are even better.
