Wife Surprised me with a new car yesterday.

I've always said I'd loved these cars from when i first saw the superbowl commercial. I've always mentioned that if I ever get a genesis it'll have to be the 8 cyclinder.

I pull into the driveway yesterday to see my wife surprise me with a awesome looking black 2011 Genesis. I knew right away it wasn't the 8 cyclinder one, I was still moved and it felt awesome to be surprised like that. I knew the 6 cyclinders had a little over 320 hp roughly until I looked up the year 2011 3.8, which is the non gdi 290 hp one.

I can't say i dont want the car, she'd think i'd be ungrateful but this is a car i have to own for several years now. So what realistic options do i have to at least get the performance of the 2012 model? (roughly 320 hp etc)


(honestly wanted a used e60 m5, or even an older e55 benz)

Make an offer, everything's for sale. Shes half korean and half white, under 30 yrs old, 5'10(asian? lol) and will run the table on most people during a jeopardy episode.

All that being said, I've put ALOT of miles on her and ran her pretty hard. .

You can get a little more HP by using mid-grade gas (or 50-50 blend of regular and premium has more octane at about the same price).

I would remove a spark plug wire and then tell her "Honey, this just doesn't run right. I'm going to take it back to the dealer." Then, at the dealer, I would stumble across the car that I really want. Generally there is a few day's window to cancel the deal.

Sadly there really aren't any performance mods for these engines. Magnaflow makes an exhaust and there are secondary cat deletes but I highly doubt you'll see a 30 hp increase. Just enjoy what you have.

I hinted at it, i said i bet we could find the 4.6 version for around the same price if we looked a bit. Horrible mistake, instant ******* and ungrateful person i am etc etc.. ( it's not like she paid cash for the thing and gave it to me, we both work) Either way looks like i'm screwed and will just have to suck it up and drive it around for a bit, doesn't seem to be any real performance upgrades for this motor so what's the point? i'll keep it all stock and drive it around.

Keep your new toy, mufflers for sound... maybe. remember 290 hp is better than a lot of muscle cars from back in the day (whatever that means). No matter how many horsepower you have someone has more, or is that money,.... count your blessings I think your life is looking pretty good. Enjoy!!

They sell turbo kits for the coupe that put hp numbers over the v8 range. It is the same motor just a different engine bay. With some possible modification it would work.

I am amazed at this thread! Really, she buys you a car! Wow, my wife barely looked at me the last few years of our marriage. I wish I were so lucky.

The V6 in these cars are lovely. Drive it, enjoy it and know she loves you!

Yeah I'm keeping it. The coupes 3.8 seems a lot different than the sedans. I wouldn't to put a turbo kit in it. If anything a supercharger but in all my other cars the best bang for my buck has been a shot of nitrous. So this is what I'm doing. Taking the car to the dealer because it seems like a fuse is blow. As the esc off button doesn't work and the cluster scroll wheel for brightness also doesn't work. While I'm at the dealer I'll see if they have used 4.6 with more miles than mine and possible trade. I don't think that's very likely to happen so my buddy who owns a large shop nearby has ordered a nitrous kit. Before you naysay me I've had a lot of nitrous experience on completely stock cars without issue . probably run 50-75 shot. I think that's pretty conservative for this motor and this will give me the same gas mileage until I floor it. A small shot will give me the low end torque as well
