  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got the g70 sport 2023 - Will I damage the engine if I use 87/89 fuel? Just curious if this affects the engine. Only time I'd consider doing this would be for the daily commute. Thanks a lot to anyone who responds.

If Premium fuel is recommended, as opposed to required, you will not damage the engine since the engine is equipped with anti detonation sensors which signal the Engine Control module to adjust spark advance etc. to adapt to regular unleaded.

100% no way will you damage the engine using 87. The 3.3T is so under tuned from the factory, its got a ton of safety headroom.

On another note, I recently watched a YouTube channel where the owner got an APR (tuning company) 87 octane tune for his new Golf GTI. That 87 octane tune added alot of power and did it safely.

Take a minute and do a search here on fuel. You will find a few threads where this has been discussed many times.

Thanks guys. Wish I was in the USA vs Canada :) so I dont have to think about it. premium fuel hurts here haha

Brother in law has been using 87 octane in a 3.3 Sport for 5.5 yrs now with zero issues. I plan to do the same in mine. The $0.30/L premium for 91 octane is ridiculous (basically 20%).

I may use 91 in the summer if I know I’ll be flogging it.

Pump your next tankful according to how you expect to drive.

Drive your next tankful according to what octane you pumped.

I used regular for 6K miles and no issues, but the car felt lethargic. It's the same freaking engine on my ex-2016 Optima SX-L, which had 245/260 power numbers with regular. The G70 has 252/260 with premium, so I assumed it'd have the same 245/260 with regular, but it feels much less than that. Now that I've been using premium, now feels like the Optima felt. But I shouldn't have to throw money away like that when it's the same freaking engine, but it is what it is. At least hope not to have con-rod issues. Ha ha. Anyway, I'll continue using premium, unless fuel prices to thru the roof again. I don't drive it much.
