  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings!

My windows have started to malfunction. When I depress the window nothing happens or they'll go down and not come up. Took it to the Hyundai dealer and he's "getting me in" on the 16th. The windows wouldn't come up for him at first and then they did. He told me not to lower them until my appointment.

Just today the locks have started to malfunction. Will not unlock, but will lock. The lock on the door handle will work after a few times trying.

Anyone else with this problem or any ideas?

Thanks,
Patrick

Electrical problems seem to be the most common problem on the Genesis...

Since you have multiple problems I'd look at what's common between them: the power feed. While holding a window switch, drag your fingers over the fuses. Folks have reported loose fuses, fuses not fully inserted, etc. on these forums. There are panels at both ends of the dash - you need the front doors open. And there are "big" fuses in the boxes under the hood.

If not, then I'll bet on a wiring harness connector not fully/properly seated (not plugged in fully) on the door harness. I've also seen not-quite-plugged-in connectors a few times on this forum and had it myself on the engine early-on: the camshaft position sensor connector wasn't fully seated on my car. Caused a "check engine" light a few weeks after purchase. If shaking the door while holding the switch makes the windows and/or locks work/stop working then this is the bug. Should be an easy fix for the dealer.

Many of the electrical devices on the Genesis don't work the "old way" by turning power on/off... i.e. they're not wired like the lights in your house. Instead it's more like a TV with a remote control: the window and door lock switches are connected to a dinky computer chip that transmits a signal on the car's CanBus (think Internet inside the car); that signal packet goes to a small computer somewhere that implements the various functions (i.e. for power windows it'll have the logic that lets the windows work for a few seconds after you shut the car off, etc.) and then that computer in turn sends signals to the window/lock motors to do their jobs. Those little computer modules are often "always on" just like the part of your remote controlled TV that waits for the remote. Those extra computer modules allow additional features like keeping the window power available after the car is shut off... but it IS a lot of extra parts compared to a simple switch directly controlling window motor power like a 1980s car.

Thanks for the reply, Mike.

I'll check the fuses and then go from there. Appreciate the feedback.

I had the same issue with the windows and locks not responding when pressed or intermittently not working. On mine it was the drivers side window/lock control panel that needed to be replaced, they did this under warranty.

My 2012 Equus just started the driver's door window intermittent thing.

Wouldn't work, so I took a video of it. After shutting off and restarting the car, it still wouldn't work for about 30 seconds, then started working again.

Another dealer trip...
