  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have approx. 3,000 miloes on three months. I began to notice a distortion in the passanger side of the windshield. At first glance it looked like scrashs in the glass, but when I felt both the inside and outside both were smooth.
The I started to notice a distortion toward the center of the windshield that looks wavy, kind of like seeing a heat shimmer. it started at about the size of a quarter and now is about 3inchs in diameter.
I took the car in to dealer today and several people looked at it. One said scrachs in glass but three others said they could feel nothing.
Service mgr. called a "Genesis" guy serving the state. I was told heis located on the other side of the state, close to Tampa. He wants to see "Every" problem with a Genesis.
Most likely will take a few days before it can be looked at.
My opnion is that it's the sheet of plastic that is at he center of the core of the laminated glass.
Has anybody seen this issue? I'll update as information is given.

Interesting, Haven't really paid no attention on minds but have to check it out.

hmmmm, haven't heard of this one yet, but it sounds as if the sheet of vinyl in the windshield has a "bad" spot or something to that nature.

I have the wavy distortion, but its very mild and has been there since the beginning. You can only see it when looking through the glass at an extreme angle. I have also seen this on some of my other cars. I have not seen anything that looks like scratches yet.

i have lines in the windshield that are only visible when the sun is behind the car. they are very annoying b/c they are right at eye height. they have been present since i took delivery; i've meant to take it in but doubt they will do anything about it.

finally gota reply after calling Serv.Mgr. back today. They have new windshield in, will take a day to replace (done byglass vendor, thank God). Would not say what they thought problem was. I'll update next Wed. when I talke it in.

I haven't noticed it on the windshield, but to notice the wavey look on the passenger side window.

In the previous 10 years I had never had a chipped windshield but in the past 8 months with the Genesis I've had 2 chips repaired in my windshield. Quality issue?

replacement to be done tomorrow. When I picked uploaner this evening, Service manager was trying to take pic of areas, (no luck). He said that the prof. installer has been told to take all care to insure glass is not cracked in any way asit is to be sent to Calf. for review.
I suggest that is any of you have any issues, you should show your service dept.

I just purchased the car on Thursday and noticed the exact same problem on the driver's side. It looks as though the plastic layer in between the windshild glass fused in it for non-shattering has micro-scratches that form a haze when the sun or other light strikes the windshield- especially at low angles (dusk and dawn). Has anyone taken in to the dealer to get replacement or other solution under warranty?

tarpunm,
I have the same issue of tiny, c-shaped scratches in the layer of palstic sandwiched between the glass. But, unfortunately it is visible in low level light (dawn and dusk) and the dealer is not open then. So, I am having difficulty convincing them of any problem. Can you please share the name of the dealer and their phone number who examined and replaced the glass on your car so my Northwest dealer can call and chat with them.

Is the new glass better?

First, the new windshield is completely clear. They boxed up the old one and I was told it would be sent to Calf. for review.

My dealer is Cocoa Hyundia, the service Mgr. is Shawn, their phone number is 321-631-2444.

Hope this helps, need any other info, let meknow

This one made me laugh...........

I usually have 10 chips in my windshields within the first 6 months no matter what vehicle I drive.............. Where do you drive under water in Atlantis?

This is not a quality issue but rather a luck issue......... why would you even bring up a quality issue when it comes to chips on a windshield........... Like I said before some people never fail to amaze me

When I was having the chip repaired yesterday I asked the technician about it and he said some windshields are extremely hard and resistant to chips/pitting. He pointed out the number of pits I have on mine already and said when he was chiseling out the chip he noticed it was a pretty soft windshield.

So there you have it -- I'm not making it up! Perhaps Hyundai decided to save some $ on this part?

Last month, I took what sounded like a small stone to my windshield; it left a nice little chip and some cracking about the size of a quarter. I called USAA's Auto Glass repair service and they came out that afternoon to repair it. I'll monitor it and see if it gets bigger or any other damage shows up around it; if it does, I'll have the windshield replaced.

On the drive down to Florida from Connecticut, took a hit to the windshield which left about a one and a half inch long crack. Insurance company told me I could have that size crack repaired and if I wasn't happy with the results they would replace the windshield. They refered me to Safelight, they came to my location and spent about a half-hour making the repair which consisted of injecting a resin into the crack and then curing it with ultra-violet light.

Amazingly, to me at least, when finished it was impossible to find any sign of the crack. Equally amazing, the charge to the insurance company was only $65.

Safelight also has customer-satisfaction practices in place; there is about 10 minutes of down time for the tech while waiting for the resin to set and they have him use that time to clean the outside of all your windows and vacuum the front footwells.

Smart company.
