  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

windshield replacement

A $2000 bill is not something I'd report to insurance., especially not if you have a $1000 deductible. You have to make your own judgment about where your cut off is, but I enjoy cheap insurance.
The glass claims I had never affected my rates. Some states even require full glass coverage, no deductible. I understand cheap insurance, but it sounds like your premium just went up $2000. Good luck.

Safelite replaced mine in my driveway for under $500. Non-HUD. No sensor re-calibration is needed. Glass is exactly what Hyundai uses without the Hyundai logo added to it. Glass was in stock. In Houston, TX. Had it for months. No problems.

Just asking if there is any issue in windshield repair for the Genesis 3.8 Ultimate model windshield.
Safelite is coming to repair a small chip in my glass on the other car , and i was thinking to asking them to look at the genesis windshield aswell .. i have about 1 mm chip (really small , a tenth size of a penny) on the genesis windshield.

Quote at Safelite about 790.00 for a 2015 5.0 non heads up. I had 0 Deductible State Farm.

I know prices have changed with the world economy and exchange rates, but that is $300 more than I paid 2 years ago for the same windshield. The mfr is Saint-Gobain Sekurit if I remember correctly. God knows where the windshield is manufactured; they are international. It may just be tariffs hitting you in the pocketbook. If the are using a Hyundai OEM glass, it will be that much or more. The difference between the two is the Hyundai logo above the Saint-Gobain logo. You might check.

My chip became a crack after the first freezing temps hit our area.

My 2015 Genesis has the Ultimate / Technology packages, eg, auto headlights on/off dim brights, rain sensing wipers, HUD, lane keep/assist etc. I suspect that the insurance company will push an aftermarket glass replacement. Has anyone with the Ultimate / Technology packages on their Genesis had problems with Safelite's aftermarket glass?

Mine doesn't either - sometimes works as expected, sometimes not.
That's a shame. Mine have worked really well every time so far, which is better than I expected.
If it rains while the car is off, and you start the car, then the wipers do not always react to clear the windshield. This is understandable, since the sensor is relative, not absolute. If there is a water drop over it when it starts, it likely won't see it.

I've heard of complaints while at the dealer. While it may appear to be the same glass, the glazing and coating might be different. The dealer worked on a car they had for over 4 hours trying to get the sensors calibrated but no dice. The windshield put in by Safelite just wouldn't work. The contract that the insurance had with Safelite said their windshield had to work or Safelite had to put in an OE (which the dealer had in stock). After the swap, it took the mechanic 45 minutes and everything was A-Ok.

USAA has a similar policy. You have to pay the deductible and give Safelite a first chance.

A rock cracked my windshield a couple of years ago. The glass company quoted me prices for the OEM and a cheaper windshield. I paid extra for the OEM. Everything was fine except the rain sensing intermittent wiper feature doesn't work. They worked great before the replacement. I've had 2 dealers try to recalibrate them but the rain sensing intermittent feature still doesn't work.

One option is to move to a different area. I lived 25 years in King County (Seattle area) and had several some gravel rocks hit my windshield over time. As far as I can remember, they were mostly spot fixed. Only one required a new windshield.

Moved to Vancouver WA and so far in 2 years, no hits.
