  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My dealer agreed to replace my badges at no cost. The back is done but they just called me today to tell me they can no longer buy these parts. They said they've been working with the parts department but we may have to look for an alternative.

The guy did acknowledge that we need to work something out but man, sounds fishy. I'm going to call a few dealers to verify. If true, I wonder if Hyundai is trying to keep the cars here branded so people know the car when they see it and don't have to wonder.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Readily available from KDM.

They do.
In Korea.

All those wings you see for sale on eBay are KDM which translates to Korean Domestic Market. Those wings are from Hyundai not after market. They come in the pastic bags marked Hyundai with the part number etc just like you would buy a part at your local dealer. As mentioned above, these wings come stock on the Korean models and this is why they are so readily available although from over seas. Any dealer stocking these in North America bought them in Korea. ;)

I recently found a dealer who very graciously offered to rebadge my car for the very reasonable sum :rolleyes::rolleyes: of $ 450.00.

I asked them if they need psychiatric care since the parts cost less than $ 50.00 and the labor involved is somewhere between 15-20 minutes.

Probably all car salespersons need psychiatric care. OTOH, they wouldn't quote those ridiculous fees unless experience tells them that some people will actually pay that much.

Or they might have just bought them on the internet from an importer like Korean Auto Parts.

Originally the KDM wings were not imported by HMA, but it is possible that they started importing them more recently due to dealer requests. I have heard conflicting stories on that.

It's remarkable how much variation there is in dealer quotes for service items. My dealer, Ourisman in Laurel, MD, recently swapped out my airbag to replace the H emblem and charged me $49.00. Since I didn't own the necessary tools, nor am I comfortable working with explosives, I thought it was eminently reasonable. Others here have been quoted much higher prices for this replacement. The KAI website estimates about 15 minutes for the swap, and I guess that turns out to be about right.

Super easy DIY. Really no reason to pay a shop to do it for you.

could the dealer at that price be talking about a total rebadge of the car?
Front Badge
Rear Badge
4 wheels re-badged
Steering wheel airbag replacement.
$450 may be reasonable for all.

What up Fellarz!

Thanks for all the posts!

I knew they were available through the net but I found it strange that the dealer kept telling me they didn't have it in stock and won't carry it anymore.

I called multiple part services and guess what? I found the part, so it looks like the dealer has some explaining to do. ;-) He offered to rebadge my car but I bet he didn't realize the caps cost $260+ dollars.

I'll keep you guys posted, I'm calling the dealer today to see what he has to say now.

Again, thank you!

Quick Update: I called another parts department and the guy explained to me what actually is done. They dealers actually take your old caps and send them out to have the wing placed on them. He said I would have to bring my car in for the exchange because the parts are made by a 3rd part vendor. They won't sell me the caps without me taking my old ones in. Interesting stuff...

Nullunit2000: Excellent video tutorial, thanks very much. Still struggling with the change out, did purchase the wings. Either way, nicely done sir.

That's because he will install the 17" caps on the 18" mags. They fit perfectly and actually this is what I have on my 18" wheels. Personally I prefer these but others prefer the custom made 18" ones. The 18" ones are in fact doctored as the take your standard 18" OEM wheel cap and insert a wing emblem. These are custom made as there are no 18" wheel as we know them her nor V8 for that matter on the Korean market. ;)

Sounds like that dealer doesn't like repeat business ;)

Because the wings are part of a geography-specific copyright infringement settlement between Hyundai, Bentley and Aston Martin, NA dealers should probably not be too helpful with doing anything related to the wings.

Do you have any proof of this (other than claims by dealers or HMA)? It has always been the stated goal of HMA to use the Genesis and Equus to improve the brand reputation of Hyundai in the US, so they obviously don't like to see the Hyundai logo removed from their cars and replaced by something the public doesn't recognize and doesn't associate with Hyundai. After an internet search I have not been able to find any evidence of a lawsuit against Hyundai regarding the wings.

I have no idea if the story is true, but if it is, there wouldn't necessarily be a lawsuit. A confidential settlement after a cease and desist letter would not be something you can find on the internet.
