  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have ordered a set of wings and steering emblem for my new (enroute) 4.6and notice that the wings have plastic protrusions on the back of them. I know they must be removed in order to attach them but has anyone any suggestions on the best way to remove these protrusions without damaging the wings?

There are holes in the trunk lid that exactly match the protrusions in the rear emblem (the smaller of the two). For the front emblem (if you have one), then most people use a dremel tool.

The steering wheel emblem fits right over the existing one (don't try and remove the one that is embedded). Do not use any "extra" tape that might come with the steering wheel emblem (just use the tape attached to it).

The pins on the trunk lid emblem fit in the holes used by the lazy H emblem. Folks here have suggested using a Dreml or similar tool to remove pins from the hood emblem, if you intend to install one. I personally think the car looks better without the hood emblem, but to each his own...

Any tricks to removing the "H" logo from the trunk?

There are many threads in this forum on the subject, just search for them. Some have video instructions.

Hint: you will need a hair dryer (or heat gun). Some people use dental floss, but I prefer the plastic putty knife method to pry it off once the glue is softened.

Needle nose pliers is what I used to break off the posts for the front wings. You'll find that they break off real easy but using needle nose will take a lot of pieces. Once you make one crack off the post it comes off easier and easier.

Quick word of caution if you use the heat gun (not meaning to cut in, Mark!), but coming from the flooring industry where it's used frequently, the heat gun will generate a significant amount of heat--enough to melt the old emblem--and the paint! Be very careful! The threads already here that Mark mentions are pretty good! Or, you could do like I did...develop a relationship with the dealer, and he'll give you the wings and install them for you @ no charge! Thanks to Frank @ Grayson Hyundai for doing so! I continue to have my ride serviced there!

You are absolutely correct. If a heat gun is used, it should only be used to generate the same amount of heat on the trunk as a hair dryer would, which means keep it at a very safe distance. I used a heat gun because that is all I had available.

I used a regular hair dryer on a 70d day. Held it there for 3 to 5 minutes and the emblem came off like budda.

Mine came off by just using an old Barnes And Noble membership card and sliding it under. The goo came off mostly with my fingers, but a bit of hot water and a rag got off the rest. Was so easy that even a non-do-it-yourself person like me could do it.

I replaced my badge on a 40 degree weather, so I had to use a heat gun to heat up the adhesive.
Initially, I used fishing lines to cut through the glue, and once they were off, I basically pryed them off, piece by piece.
As for removing the adhesive, a dap of WD-40 on a microfiber towel while keeping the surface nice and warm did the trick.
Took about 5 min total.
Love the new look with the wing badge. :)

I personally didn't like putting the front emblem on. I think it looks much better without it. Sometimes too many shinny things on a car makes it look less classy. Just my opinion.

Hey, quick question, what is best source to buy those badges? Trunk, steering wheel and wheels.

I had the exact opposite reaction. I didn't want to put on the front emblem because I was afraid it would look gaudy, but my wife wanted it and it was her car.

After I put it on it really grew on me.

I think reason I like it is because it identifies the car...like a BMW or Mercedes logo. In fact, most high end cars have a similar ornament. I think the regular Genesis, without any kind of front identification looks a bit generic...like beer beer. It would have been better if Hyundai had included a Genesis identification in the grill.

On the other hand, I took off the GENISIS words off the trunk. I didn't like the asymmetry of them, and the logo already had the Genesis name in it.

I still have my hood badge with me, uninstalled.
Still kinda contemplating whether I should put it on or leave it as is.
I prefer the look with the badge on, but without the holes to align the badge, I'm afraid of misaligning it and making it look crooked.

How did you align yours, Disaster?

I used blue painters tape. First I ran a piece up from the grill center line to find the center on the hood.. Then I created a box just a tiny bit bigger than the wing...measuring up from the grill on each side. Placed the wing tips at the corners of the box and lowered it into place. I measured and moved the tape a bunch of times before feeling comfortable enough to attach the emblem.

P.S. I let the curvature of the emblem "show" me how high to mount it (about 1.5" above grill.) The emblem curves more at the front...kind of like a bird's beak. I slid the emblem up and down the hood till it's bottom edge best matched the curvature of the hood. It had more surface contact and was "stickier" when sliding through that location.
