  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I'm not sure if this is me being unreasonable, or just really cruddy service. Weds night I found a bubble in the sidewall of my factory Dunflops. I have the Fidelity Tire and Wheel Road Hazard warranty through HMA.

I went to my local dealer, JM Hyundai in New Rochelle, NY, since they offered to see me the next morning (Thurs) if I came in at 7:30. I got there, and the first thing I nearly flew off the handle for was the fact that in order to get my car into their service area, I had to drive down a ramp that scraped the bottom for my car against concrete. This was "normal" they said. Hrm. Ok.

So they take my car, and 2 hours later, call me back into the service area. The Road Hazard coverage will cover it, but they need to order the tire. Probably Saturday or Monday. Here it is Monday, and I don't have the factory tire replaced on my Genny yet. I called 2 other dealers in the area and NOBODY stocks the tire.

So, am I being unreasonable? Should a dealer have spare tires for the factory tires that it sells on one of it's cars, or am I just being crazy? Comments people?

  1. You're not being unreasonable. That being said, it's probably scraping on the (likely plastic) front air dam underneath the car, which, well, is kinda designed to be abused. That being said, I probably would find another dealer.
  2. The stock tires are awful.
  3. Did I mention how bad the stock tires were? I know this isn't convenient considering you dolled out extra for roadhazard protection, but it's the sad truth
  4. It doesn't surprise me that they're having such a hard time finding a replacement tire, but if it's brand new and it's the dealer you bought from, I don't see why they couldn't swap with one on the lot.

Road hazard covers the rims and whatever tires I have on. I've got a set of Extreme DW and DWS on backorder. My local tire guy said he'd give me a week with each to decide which I want. Any comments there? :)

And nah, the bubble is on the actual sidewall. It's probably from either a crappily built tire (oh,no, really? Dunflops?) or a pothole, since I'm in NYC :) It's just nuts that I don't have a loaner or a fixed car 5 days later... at least IMO.

Lucky they didn't tell you that you could have your car back immediately . . . . . . with your spare in place of the faulty tire! As for having backup tires in stock, I find that most service departments carry very little in stock these days. Not that I am all that old, but I can remember a time when you went to the dealer with an issue and they had whatever part you needed on the shelf ready for installation. Those were the days! Maybe it isn't cost effective to have stock on hand. Who knows.

lol I also have a set of Conti Extreme DW on backorder. If I get 'em in before you do I'll let ya' know my thoughts :-)

I can probably get the DW really quick. Its the DWS that's on back order for like 30 years. People here seem to recommend the DWS, but I'm thinking about buying a set of the DW and then a set of good winter tires. Has anyone used the DW vs the DWS and have any practical comments? Thanks!

Also, I got my car back today. They mounted and balanced the tire. I'm just concerned that with 13k miles of wear on the other tires, and 0 miles of wear on this one that it'll be... awkward, but it seems ok sofar.

Capo,

I ordered the DW too and in fact have already received them.
The problem is I cannot put them on my car till at least the 15th of March as it is law here in Quebec to have winter tires from Dec 15th to March 15th.
Plus I'm traveling that week.

I will put them on only when the temperature allows me too.
I can't wait to try them...they look great!
