If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The seats and most vertical surfaces are covered in Napa leather and trim elements consist of real aluminum and open core wood of several different hues crafted by furniture makers in Italy and shipped to Hyundai facilities in South Korea for cutting and fitting.

They were a little harsh on the previous Gen handling.

The new Genesis is a revelation, no longer wallowing like a whale or leaning like a famous Italian building when pushed in the turns.

That statement is absurd. "Wallowing" and "leaning" were never the characteristics or criticisms that I associate with the 1st gen of any year. I wonder if the writer ever actually drove the 1st gen. The early problems were harsh and unsettled. That is totally different. The only way that statement is valid is if it is a generalization to much older, non-Genesis Hyundai products.

I agree with you entirely but it still remains the difference is quite remarkable.

Yep, and I entirely agree with you. The writer totally misrepresented the prior generation. But, the new car is from an entirely different planet. It is freakin' awesome.

I would think he had some say, after all he is the chief design officer for Hyundai. Then again he has only been in this position for a little over a year. http://www.automotiveworld.com/anal...ent-chief-design-officer-hyundai-motor-group/

Chris Bangle became the chief of design at BMW in October of 1992, but he apparently gets absolutely no credit for the E38 (released in '94), E39 (released in '96), and lot of people don't like to admit that the E46 (released in '98) was a Bangle design along with the original X5, X3, Z3 and Z8. it was only until the 2002 7-series (almost 10 years after he headed design) that all BMWs started being called "Bangled".

I would say that Schreyer had less input, if any, on the new Genesis (released in November of 2013 in S. Korea) than Bangle had on the E38 7-series.

You are probably right as the design was most likely already nailed down and into production by the time he showed up. Can we blame him for not putting on fog lights. :D

Not trying to be a nit, but doesn't say anything about being "hand" crafted, just crafted in Italy. The term "crafted" is meaningless, especially since the wood is cut in Korea in Hyundai.

Agreed - would pertain more to the old Azera.

just a misinformed review. Peter Schreyer had nothing to do with the Genesis design or any Hyundai design so far.

Yep - the 1st Schreyer directed design (something going to production) is around 2-2.5 yrs away.

The 2009 Azera definitely had some suspension issues, at least mine did. It was very unsettling over bumpy surfaces and I wore through tires on it quickly, turns out that the robot welded the suspension to the wrong spot inside causing the system to rebound multiple times over repeatedly bumpy surfaces. The whole thing was out of whack....you could clearly see the marks where it should have been welded. It took several thousand miles and 3 sets of tires before they figured out what the problem was, the good news is that's how I wound up in my first Genny in 2010...never looked back :D

That brings up the question of where the Xeroxed-plastic wood dash material comes from. After all, the majority of '15 Genesis owners will get that material with their cars.

Probably Xerox. See here. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM

FYI, all versions except the most basic V6 gets the real wood dash in Canada.

The fact that I could get the Ultimate package with real wood and avoid the terrible looking plood made the difference in my choosing to turn in my 2009 Tau for a 2015. I would much prefer the leather on the 2009 over the Zeroxed wood grain. My real wood is brown and has really nice grain. I like the non-shiny finish on the wood.

I'll bet there will soon be aftermarket kits with real wood available to retrofit the 2015 Genesis without the Ultimate package.

Let's hope so. The first gen leather dash looks so posh in comparison to the plastic/Xeroxed wood. What was Hyundai thinking to scrap it on the '15? The leather dash was one of the big features that drew me to the Genesis. It exudes
luxury.

Couldn't agree more!

I wood (pun intended ) think the real wood dash wood  be available as a part through Hyundai. I do know all the models except the absolute base come with real wood in Canada so it is not such a rare bird. ;)

I completely agree - the attractiveness of the matte finish wood inserts was a big seller alongside the HUD. I also agree that the plasti-wood is atrocious. I can't see how Hyundai could put in something as gorgeous as the prior-gen leather and the current-gen wood grain and still have the gall to put the plasti-wood in the base models. It weakens the appeal of the Genesis line as a result. That said, I'm incredibly happy with mine.

The Audi A6 has that same matte-finish, exposed-grain ash in some of its models but it enshrouds the entire shifter area. Very, very nice, but I still like the '15's interior better overall.
