  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a newbie on the forum, been reading it for about 2 months but did not join until today when I took delivery of my V8, sterling blue, beige interior, tech pkg. The first several times I pressed the accelerator, the car tried to lurch out from under me. Breaking was quick, too. It feels like I'm on/in a tiger waiting to scream out down the road (and it certainly does, given the opportunity!). :D

Thanks to all of you for all the postings (pro and con); you helped me make my decision. I value this site and have reccomended it to several friends (even my car salesman).

All of you make a valuable resource for practical experience and knowledge base for owners and prospective owners.

Welcome

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new car. Wait to the engine "loosens" up a bit. I have noticed a difference since going over about 2500k. The engine seems to be more free. 80-110mph is where the engine realy shows it's true muscule, unbelievable passing power in that range

I entirely agree with you. I swear, the car feels faster than before now that the engine has broken in and the suspension seems to have loosened up and feels a little softer. ALSO, when I first bought my car I couldn't get more then 26 MPG highway, and now my last road trip I got 30.2 MPG:D

Now you are scaring me.........you mean that in addition to the incredible HP/power I have now, it's gonna increase? YEOW! I'm gonna have to leash this beast! :D Seriously, thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and to you, crupp, for this news.

Could I take this time to ask y'all a question? How many of you 4.6 owners test drove the 3.8 in addition? Did you notice a difference in the ride or the suspension? I did.

SterlingDave,

Like you I had the same initial feelings when I 1st tested the car.
In my case I had tested the V6 for an hour and when I returned to the dealer, I then immediately took the V8 for another hour test.

My 1st initial thoughts was the breaking power is unreal on the V8. I still TODAY can't believe how much this car can break!
My 2nd thought was on the highway cruising at around 70 and floored it...man does this car shine at that precise moment. I absolutley love the power of the V8.

Congrats on the new vehicle and enjoy the hell out of it!!!!

Now for the bad news...you think you love the car now??? Wait till a few months go by...it's been 4 months for me and still can't wait to get in it a drive...

ciao,

Man, I hope not...I sorta feel like when I had just gotten my license and got to take the family car out solo.

You would think that grown men would be over that "rush", right? No, I don't think so either. :D

I don't know guys. I certainly don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but I really don't think this car is all that fast. It's quick, but when you compare it to some of the other cars in it's class, it's just average. If you go a little more upscale to say a BMW 550 or a Mercedes E 500 and it would then be considered slow. I'd like to see a more powerful version in the future, similar to BMW's M, Mercedes' AMG, and Chrysler's SRT.

Hi Larry.. Yeah, I hear ya.. Though I have to say the BMW 550i is basically consider a street car/track car. It's not your average, comfortable luxury vehicle. It's practically an M5 as it is - and very stiff riding.. The M-Series, V-Series, AMG-Series and SRT-Series are all very high performance vehicles. Hyundai doesn't have a division like that yet - and I don't know of any plans either...

The Genesis competes very well with it's intended competitors.. 0-60 can come in 5.3 seconds for the Tau V8. The Lexus GS460 does it in 5.4... So does the Infiniti M45, the Lexus LS460, the Mercedes S550.. I think the new BMW 750i does it in about the same..

What are the times for the 550i and E500? I forget..

Sorry, I mistyped. I meant E550, not E500. Anyway, if you go by Edmunds more conservative 0-60 numbers:

Genesis 4.6 - 5.9s
BMW 550i - 5.4s
Mercedes E550 - 5.2s

I don't generally look to Car and Driver or Road and Track for 0-60 and Quarter Mile times since they do things to launch the cars that I would never think of doing to my baby which I spent over $35k for.

Back on topic...

I originally intended to buy the v6 and I test drove it a couple of times. It's a great setup. Then I took the v8 out for a spin...wow! For the price difference I just had to have a v8!

I loved my test drive(s) in the V6. But, stubborn guy that I am, I just had to try the V8.....uhoh....it hit me. I promised myself right then that I was never going to slap myself in the head and say "I coulda had a V8"! The additional horses were great, the ride a little more solid, the additional features very good, and all for $2k? Gennie had me then and there!

Change your engine oil, differential oil and transmission oil to a synthetic one. It will help protect the parts longer, and things will be even more smooth than they currently are.

Larry, don't worry about my bubble.....I wasn't trying to buy a racing/high performance car. If I'd wanted that then Porsche, bimmer M's, etc. would have gotten some interest from me. I wanted a very nice car, i.e. sedan, that has "luxurious" appointments, performance, economic operation, looks, great handling, and maybe something a little different. I went through caddies, Buick Lucerne, bimmer 5's and 7's. Didn't spend any time on Lexus (too pricey). Infiniti and Acura were not really good value for $, IMHO. I swore off Audi's several years ago. Then, I happened upon Genesis writeups....did lots of research (yep, even in this forum!), then the test rides. :D The price was almost unbelievable. I was had! What a great car!!!!

For my purposes, gennie is perfect! The V8 has plenty of power, almost too much....but not quite. :p I'll not be trying to see how fast it will go, nor how stable it feels at 130 mph. I've had Acuras, bimmers (both 3xx and 5xx), the high end Buick Lucerne (CXS), MercsB, and many other cars. I've owned/driven bimmers (3xx and 5xx) and MercsB in Europe (for 6 years). And I can say that right now the Genesis 4.6 is the best of the lot and no more than I need and pretty much all I want.

To say I'm happy with gennie would be a wild understatement. :D

As a Woman, I feel the same way too....

Believe me, I'm with you. I did a lot of research before I bought my Genesis, and frankly I can't believe there is a car that is this inexpensive with everything it has. I got a comment from an obnoxious coworker who drives a BMW 325i who said, "It's still a Hyundai". I responded, you mean my top of the line, North American Car of the Year for which I paid less than you paid for your entry level BMW? Then I took him for a ride, and all he could say was, "Classy!"

Oh, almost forgot. Every day at work I park my new Genesis in an isolated part of our parking garage, angled slightly to discourage people from parking next to me. On many days, I'll go out to my car and see a similarly colored Lexus LS 400 parked at the same angle, adjacent (but not too close) to my car. It's as if he is trying to mock me! All I can think of is, "I'm sorry he paid so much money for his Lexus".
