Can anyone confirm that the navigation systems are exactly the same between the new Sonata and new Genesis?
From my understanding so far it appears the standard navigation system in the Genesis is the same as the standard navigation system in the Sonata (which is really only available in the Ultimate Package for the Sonata). I have a new Sonata with that package. The Genesis Ultimate is a completely different system. So the systems are different if you have a Genesis Ultimate.
Oh, that figures. As an Apple fan boy, I read MacRumors regularly. They recently reported that CarPlay (and Android Auto) won't be available on the Genesis until the 2016 model. See: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/12/18/hyundai-display-audio-carplay/
I have not been holding my breathe for this, but the fact is that Hyundai is updating the Sonata system, or have publicly stated they will, for 2015.
The Sonata system and the 8" display Genesis system are the same hardware. They are also the same O/S, although the Genesis application software is several point revisions later than that in the Sonata.
I forget where I dug the tech specs up, but I did it before I bought the car a month and-a-half ago.
The Ultimate 9.2" is completely different. I actually went for the 8" display because I really like the split-screen functionality.
On the surface, it appears that if they update the Sonata, they can update the 8" display on the Genesis - as far as the technical challenges go.
Whether they will is the big question. If Hyundai chooses not to, I can see people who are smarter than me trying to hack the update for the Genesis after the Sonata gets it.
Yea, had a 5.0 for a loaner when my 5.0 Ultimate was in for taillight and oil change. Really liked the split screen, which I do not have. Life and compromises. Heads up helps make up for that in different function.. You would think that with 9.2" they would do a split screen. Oh well.. Enjoy your feature.
Agreed I have a new Sonata with the 8” screen that does the split function. After getting out of the Genesis and into the Sonata the first thing I miss is the HUD (really like it) then the screen. Even with the split screen feature it just doesn’t have the “Pop” of the 9 ½ screen. Oh yea did I mention how much I like the HUD?
This is just a guess, but I would think that Hyundai must be getting ready to launch the 2016 MY of the Genesis and THAT model should have AA in their 9" screen. So it would seem the capability (and retrofit) should be just around the corner.
