  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

6.5 hours in a dealership, lol... Slowest thing ever to purchase, but all is well, and it's in my driveway.

Platinum Metallic, 3.8, Black Interior w/ tech :)

I love the car, much better than what it replaced (a fully loaded 07 Mini Cooper S).

I've found some odd things I didn't know about it.... which aren't big deals... but I think are quirky...

  • The HID headlights, aren't Bi Xenon. Meaning, the high beam, doesn't come from the HID bulb.
  • The display in between the tach and speedo should display at least music info, like song information. Or if not this, some space should be used to play the track title/artist/etc on top of the map screen as an overlay. Not hard to integrate into the current setup... just software plugin :P
  • The pedals don't move... I would've thought they did like the azera... that's not a big deal. I'm 5 foot 8.. and can sufficiently reach the pedals.
  • And the interesting one, the sound system,, the 17 speaker lexicon system, doesn't get loud enough LOL :)

---

On a good note, that same audio system, has notified me to imperfections in my own recordings. I'm a singer, and listened to the stereo with some of those tracks, and heard hissing and pops , that I thought I had cleaned up in pro tools.. I guess I'll have to use the aux line in, with my laptop and patch it in, to use that as a studio system to edit those files again :)

Other than that, I love the car. The ride is fabulous, and it's very remniscent of my 330i bimmer, in terms of quality. (I know it'll be better in terms of reliability)

:)

Tomorrow, when it's sunny, I'll take pictures for you guys.

edit: to the guy who was wondering if he was too young for a genesis. the answer is no. I'm 22 ;)

:welcome: to the Florida crowd! Sounds like you got a great ride, looking forward to the pics. Now all we need is someone out in P'cola and we'll have the state pretty much covered. From a previous post:

If you really want to give the Lexicon a good test, and you like the Eagles, try this:

dts DIGITAL SURROUND - EAGLES -Hell Freezes Over - DVD

When the disk boots up, select DTS Sound, then the Seven Bridges Road Track.

Crank it...and be prepared to blown out of the car.:D

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
What took so long with the purchase?

The MINI is a totally different sort of car--it would never even cross my mind to compare the two. When you say that the Genesis is much better, do you mean things beyond the obvious (i.e. that the Genesis is much roomier, more comfortable, smoother, quieter, and more powerful)?

Congrats on your ride and I hope that you are enjoying the silence inside!

Congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesis! I bet you have the most comfortable ride out of all your friends....

The dealership had 2 equipped with tech package. The one they use for demo test drives and the one in show room. I wanted show room, due to people hot rodding it on the road, and fiddlling with fiddly bits incorrectly. Seems they didn't want to sell the show room one. Which was Platinum Metallic, instead of that Grey Colour.

And I wasn't paying their market adjustment. :P So it was hours of negotiation. I ended up paying 36k, when MSRP on the car (with the destination charge) was 40k. With their markup they wanted 43k. I was floored. But.. I got a really really good deal :)

I"ll take some pictures in a second...

Edit: Oh about the MINI. It was honestly, without going into specific detail the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned, It had some really bad electrical and mechanical problems, that even a lawsuit with MINI didn't fix, over the course of 7 months. It's a REALLY long story. And the genesis gets the same "REAL WORLD" miles per gallon, my cooper got. lol (that's before the problems started. Doing 75 mph on the highway, the Cooper never got above 30 mph. The genesis is getting 29 or so. That's good enough for me. :) And not premium fuel mind you heheheheh (insert evil laugh and twisty hands here)

mkraseh: I'll post some excellent review points for you on the mini. I'm just waking up,, so gimme a bit :P

Long day.

Ok folks. Pictures are in my album. I will take more, but that's all I had time for. Dr's appointment, running late, and didn't want to get out of bed.

Back to the MINI and Genesis comparison.

Let me preface this, by saying... I hated that car. I didn't want that car, it was effectively chosen for me by a 3rd party, as a transition vehicle... of sorts :-/ (shrugs). However, in the following statements, I shall try my hardest not to let my bias play ball.

The MINI, for what it is, is wonderful, as a basic, A - to - B car. Their parent company is BMW (B**ch, Moan, Whine, if you've ever owned one you know what I mean), the engine is built by Peugeot & Citroen (an odd combination given both are French and BMW is Bavarian). The MINI gets 'OK' MPG, the highest I ever recorded was doing 70 mph on a very flat highway w/ cruise control, at 32.5 MPG.

It shows flaws, which are the typical ones, that BMW is plagued with. electrical issues. when you start to add options, navigation, premium packages, etc. Which is, what mine had.

To directly compare the two.... however,, because the cars are in two different automotive classes of design, marketing, and prices, it's a matter of pure personal preference.

6 months into MINI ownership, (aside from the horrible safety and mechanical/electrical issues I was having) the (as they call it) "HiFi" audio upgrade was a deal breaker. 10 speakers, vaguely advertised to be made by harman/kardon. Upon having them replaced: philips/magnavox. It was rubbish. Pure rubbish.

And you see it time and time, luxury service isn't all that great. They act like they don't care. ESPECIALLY when you didn't buy the tip toppity of the tip top of the line Alpina B7 BMW. They condescend to you, like you're no one, and get to you when they can. It's honestly, like dealing with the FCC, FDA, or any other over rated, glorious federal agency that has too much power. :P

I have quite a few friends with Hyundais, from the dealership I acquired mine from, and have never had an issue, always been treated top notch. And I like that idea.

I told someone from this board earlier, luxury is a subjective word. It's what you make of it. Not what a dealership does. MINI is "a luxury car" because it's "parent company" is BMW. That's what they want you to think. When you buy one, you expect luxury service.

In my case, did I get it. Absolutely not one time. And I am disgusted at that idea. :) Brand names don't phase me (by the way, I'm 22, of the "trend setting generation"; guess I'm a black sheep)

---

Oh... for reference, I had no performance mods to the MINI, and the Genesis is getting 32mpg on the highway ;) Which is what I got on the MINI :) that's bloody awesome....

If anyone has questions, or wants to know something... feel free... Hope I don't come across like a cynical mental or something :) I'm pretty cool,,, and enjoy reading some of your posts.. it's actually a LOT different, from other car forums (primarily MINI and BMW)... you guys seem very laid back.

What is the sales tax in Florida?

$36K after taxes for the fully loaded V6 with tech package seems rather low?

Cheers

Thomas

but 6.5 hrs at a dealer... i would never do that... unless they were serving all you can eat prime rib and lobster... then SURE

Now what you should do is drop by a MBZ and Lexus Dealer- to look around their lots and see how many salespeople- make it a point to look at your car.

Way best reported on here so far! How did you do the calculation?
Instant MPG gage, AVG MPG gage, or manual? Over how many miles?

60 miles, which is one way home, from work.

Manual and the numerical gauge (I forget it's title)... not the one with the bars (that's silly).

lol.. my grandmother, whom drives a Benz S65 AMG wants to trade it in on a Genesis now... She HATES HATES that car. .. and loves mine :P

I have ways. :)

That's delving into the realm of personal finances... that I don't want to share.. hope that doesn't come across as cocky.

Enjoy - it's not cocky at all. We just want the learn the "secret" :)
