Default Genesis Motors pricing policies/dealer quality...

I was at the local Hyundai dealership(Autonation) the other day to pick up my daughter's Sonata, after it had to be towed there, from the service department. My Genesis 4.6 has also been in service there, so I have experience with them on two vehicles. I'm sorry to say it, but they are just not impressive at all. They are also the Chrysler/Dodge dealership, and it seems like Hyundai is sort of an afterthought around there. And they tell me that the Genesis Motors service will be performed in that same shop, not a dedicated Genesis Motors service department.

First of all, in the case of my daughter's car, they badly need to somehow get more organized. It took them about 20 minutes to figure out whether the ticket had been closed or not, who the service writer was, and to eventually find the key fob. It was ridiculous. Also, as I left the shop, I noticed that the engine light was on. I understand that the engine light being on may have been due to a different problem, but one would think they would take the initiative to find out why it was on and call my daughter about it. So, I went back and they scanned it and were able to clear the warning light. But, that all should have been dealt with proactively.

My Genesis was in that shop for about a month for some warranty work, and to replace the Smart Cruise Control module. Similar to the case with my daughter's Sonata, when I picked up my Genesis after they finally said the work was completed, I pulled onto the highway and -- no cruise control! So, I take it back and put it back into the shop. After another day or two, they said the SCC needed to be calibrated and was now working, which it was when I picked it up again. It's just not impressive at all.

IMO, if Genesis Motors wants to play and succeed in the BMW/Mercedes/Cadillac league, they are going to have to have much better quality control with respect to their service department customer experience.

Now, with regard to Genesis Motors pricing policies. While I was there picking up my daughter's Sonata, I thought I would check out the G80s there in the sales department. This experience was likewise less than impressive. First, the size and general appearance of the facility was sort of low rent looking. Perhaps they are going to renovate and upgrade the place. The two sales guys were nice enough, although one of them didn't seem knowledgeable enough about the G80 and G90 to really answer my questions. The other fellow did seem to know the product in great detail and was very helpful. Upon my asking about the pricing on the G80 and some competitive vehicles, he stated that they cannot and will not discount the Genesis Motors vehicles. His stated reason is that if they start doing that, it will tick buyers off by causing more rapid depreciation of their new vehicles. He seemed to claim that Genesis Motors will not allow any discounts to be offered. Does anybody know if that is true? Any other observations on experiences at other dealerships?

Pricing of the Genesis Motors vehicles is completely up to the dealer. If the dealer wants to sell only at MSRP, that is there own decision.

How big is their inventory of G80's? If the dealer is in Tyler TX, they only have 2 G80's, which might explain their pricing.

Yep, pricing is up to the dealership. Been considering a G80, and even without any haggling, they discounted it from $53,800 MSRP to $48,319.50, asked what color I wished, and said they could have it there in a couple of days. I don't know if they would have went any lower, but hopefully others will chime in on this thread.

Sounds like a good dealer with a good price.

By the way, is your part of the country really called the American Redoubt? If so, maybe that's an asset in your car deal.

Purchased a new G80 AWD 3.8 Premium & Ultimate Packages.....MSRP $54,040 paid $50,272. No hassle sale, Hyundai dealership in Colorado. The discount presents a 7% discount off MSRP.

Nice deal on a nice car! It will be nice if people post their experiences like this, so that others can get an idea what sort of deals are possible for dealers to make.

LOL...well in the days of the internet I hope they are competitive with other dealers
I dont think these cars are nearly expensive enough for the crowd that will pay a few thousand more just for convenience
I have cut several deals..financially..before I even saw the car
For a low resale/heavily discounted car there are always dealers willing to deal
if your local will not the next one probably will

We are not talking Mercedes E class cars here..which I think are bringing sticker everywhere right now

    Keep that in mind

Most cities in East Texas have at most one Genesis dealer.

Yeah, I haven't checked that out, but I'd be surprised if there will be ANY Genesis dealers here in East Texas, other than in Tyler and possibly Longview. I may have to go to Dallas if/when I get ready to make a move on a G80 or G90. The thing is, if I do that, will I then get the same owner benefits with the dealer here in Tyler?

The deal I spoke about in post #7 above did not work out and I rescinded the sale with the dealer in Littleton, Colorado. The dealer tried to slip rebate certificates that they were not offering to me in my paperwork that was sent Fedex to me. When I called the dealer, the dealer told me, since I was an internet sale and refused the add-ons like window tint, paint protection etc, and would not be a customer at their service center since I am an out of state buyer, they will keep the rebate. I told them to keep the car. I did not sign the paperwork, and requested the dealer send me a check for the amount paid.

I found another dealer in Scottsdale, AZ who sold me the car I wanted, 2017 G80 RWD Premium Package and Ulitmate Package for $46,732, after providing me with $2000 in Hyundai rebates. Final price was well below dealer invoice. Best deal, and smoothest transaction via the telephone. G80 being transported this week. Dealer was Earnhardt Hyundai/Genesis in Scottsdale, AZ. The person I dealt with was Jimmy Tonelli the New Car Sales Mgr. His number is 888-558-3505 james.tonelli@earnhardt.com This was the smoothest and most painless auto purcahse I have ever made.

You can build a G80 or G90 on Edmunds.com and the site will provide MSRP and Dealer Invoice for anyone to see. This is what I did and then started the negotiation from the invoice price with the dealer.

Also, the G80 is being professional transported to my residential address for $250 or just .62 cents per mile. What a great deal.

Hope this helps others considering the brand. Be sure to shop around as there are dealerships willing to sell below dealer invoice. I also requested a copy of the dealer invoice that was direct from Hyundai USA. The dealer had no problem emailing me the invoice.
